Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect many different organs and systems in the body. Symptoms often come and go, with periods of disease flare alternating with remission.
Because the early symptoms are often vague and non-specificβsuch as persistent fatigue, low-grade fever, joint aches, muscle pain, hair loss, weight loss, headaches, and a general feeling of being unwellβSLE can sometimes be difficult to recognise in its initial stages.
Although there is currently no cure, advances in treatment have enabled many people living with lupus to manage their condition well and continue leading active and fulfilling lives.
Swipe through to understand SLE (lupus), recognise some of its common signs, and learn why awareness matters.
