The squeaky-clean feeling is a common cleansing myths. Clean skin should feel fresh and comfortable, stripped or sound squeaky. When the cleanser removes essential ceramides and protective lipids from the skin barrier, the skin can feel dry and irritated.

I recommend choosing cleansers according to your skin type:
🔹For oily or combination skin, a gentle foaming cleanser can help remove excess oil while supporting the barrier.
🔹For dry skin, look for a hydrating formula with 3 essential ceramides.

Remember, if your skin squeaks, your barrier is weak.

Azelaic acid is having a moment, and for good reason. This multitasking ingredient has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant and pigment regulating effects. That is why azelaic acid is used for concerns including acne, rosacea, redness, brown post-acne marks and uneven pigmentation. It also combines well with ingredients such as niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and selected retinoids, depending on the formula and your skin tolerance. One important caveat: most clinical studies used 15% or 20% azelaic acid. Many popular cosmetic serums contain 10%.Read my full guide on azelaic acid for skin, including how to choose a product for acne, redness, pigmentation and sensitive skin, on my blog. Save this before starting azelaic acid skincare.
