Azelaic acid is having a moment, and for good reason. This multitasking ingredient has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant and pigment regulating effects. That is why azelaic acid is used for concerns including acne, rosacea, redness, brown post-acne marks and uneven pigmentation. It also combines well with ingredients such as niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and selected retinoids, depending on the formula and your skin tolerance. One important caveat: most clinical studies used 15% or 20% azelaic acid.
