Wonder why you got those recurring backaches just from sitting down? 🪑 💬

1. Sitting increases pressure on spinal discs

One of the most widely cited spinal biomechanics studies by Alf Nachemson found that sitting can place more pressure on lumbar spinal discs than standing.

* Standing = lower disc pressure
* Sitting, especially slouched sitting = increased disc pressure

2. Slouching increases spinal stress further

Research found forward head posture and slouched sitting increase stress on spinal discs, muscles, and ligaments.

3. Prolonged sitting may contribute to disc degeneration

Studies associate long periods of sitting with:

* reduced spinal movement
* increased stiffness
* muscle fatigue
* higher risk of lower back pain

4. Movement helps nourish spinal discs

Spinal discs do not have a direct blood supply like muscles do. Movement helps exchange nutrients and fluid through the discs.

5. Sitting with poor ergonomics increases neck and back strain

Poor desk setup may contribute to:

* low back discomfort

* fatigue
