People-pleasing can reduce tension in the moment. You agree, stay quiet or make yourself easier to accommodate because disappointing someone feels uncomfortable.
But the conflict does not necessarily disappear. It may move inward.
Over time, repeatedly ignoring your own needs can lead to resentment, emotional exhaustion and uncertainty about what you genuinely want.
Learning to set healthy boundaries does not mean becoming uncaring. It means allowing your needs to have a place in your relationships too.
If you are struggling with people-pleasing, boundary setting or emotional burnout, counselling can help you understand where these patterns come from and practise expressing yourself without being overwhelmed by guilt.
At Incontact Counselling Singapore, we support individuals in building self-worth, improving communication and creating healthier relationships.
