A workforce can be present at 9am—and still be running 1.1 hours short.
In the 2026 Singapore Sleep Health Survey, office-based working adults reported sleeping an average of 6.3 hours a night. Yet they said they needed 7.4 hours to feel refreshed—leaving an average self-reported gap of 1.1 hours each night.
This does not mean 6.3 hours is a universal cut-off. The more important signal is that workers themselves feel their sleep is falling short of what they need.
And that gap can follow them into the workday:
• 97% reported a drop in productivity after poor sleep
• 58% estimated their performance fell by more than 20%
• Nearly 1 in 5 still felt that needing little sleep signals a strong work ethic
For employers, sleep health is not about monitoring bedtimes. It is about recognising how rest, workplace performance and organisational culture are connected.
Sleep deserves a place in the workplace wellbeing conversation.
