I’m grateful to be invited as a speaker and panelist for this upcoming community sharing on “Screens, Games and Growing Minds”, happening on Friday, 9 October, from 7:00pm to 9:30pm at Keat Hong Community Club.

This is a topic that comes up often in my clinical work. For many parents, managing screen time and gaming can be challenging and may even become a source of daily conflict at home.

The sharing will help parents better understand how screen use can affect children’s brain development through a neuropsychological lens. We’ll also explore the needs behind children’s screen use and gaming cravings, and how parents can help meet these unmet needs in real life, rather than relying on screens to fulfil them.

We’ll also explore how to find a healthier balance in screen use, manage resistance, reduce power struggles, and maintain a strong parent-child connection with love and understanding.

Most importantly, parents can take away practical techniques that they can apply at home immediately. Managing problematic screen use is not just the child’s responsibility. It is something that parents and children can work on together within the family dynamic.

In today’s digital world, parenting comes with new challenges. All parents are warmly invited to join us for this meaningful and practical sharing. Come along to better understand your child’s digital world and learn how we can guide them with greater connection, understanding . 🩵

We’re excited to invite you to our first OK Parent, OK Child session.

Take a well‑deserved evening to pause, reflect and reconnect with yourself. Caring for your child begins with caring for you.

It’ll be a cosy space for parents to slow down and think about the moments that shape how we show up for our children. If you’ve ever wondered why certain reactions come so quickly, or why some patterns feel familiar, this session will gently explore where these responses come from and how we can parent with more awareness and kindness toward ourselves.

Date: 7 Aug, Friday
Time: 7:00PM – 9:00PM

Thank you for the invitation to speak at this parenting session, “Raising a Resilient PSLE Child: What Parents Can Do at Home”. As a parent of two, it was meaningful to journey alongside other parents as we explored how stress affects a child’s brain, why emotions feel “bigger” during the PSLE season, and how simple, consistent support at home can strengthen resilience and readiness to learn.

From a neuroscience lens, emotional safety, regulation, and connection form the foundation for learning. When parents understand what’s happening in the child’s brain, it becomes easier to respond with clarity, compassion, and confidence.

When a child feels safe and supported, their nervous system begins to calm. This shift moves the brain out of “survival mode” and activates the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain responsible for clear thinking, planning, problem solving, and emotional self management. In this calm state, the brain’s executive functions strengthen: attention improves, memory works better, and children are more able to make thoughtful decisions instead of reacting from stress.

A calm brain learns better. A connected brain remembers better. A supported brain grows stronger.

I was also glad to introduce Jen Tan, our counsellor at HiDolphin Counselling. Jen is both a counsellor and a parent. Her patience, attunement, and experience with children including neurodivergent children and their parents allow her to work closely with families as a supportive team. Through play therapy using sandtray and art, together with her background in educational therapy with neurodivergent learners, she understands the needs, emotional experiences, and learning challenges that children face.

At HiDolphin, we focus on brain readiness for learning. When children can unwind their negative emotions and regulate their nervous system, they think more clearly, make better decisions, and retain information more effectively. Emotional regulation opens the door for learning behaviours to grow.

PSLE resilience doesn’t come from extra homework. It grows from small moments, the hugs, the humour, the “I’m here with you”. More presence, more patience, more connection. Before results, relationship. Before strategy, emotional safety.

Your child needs a parent at home, not a textbook. Children learn best when they feel us beside them, not behind them.

If you’re a parent navigating the PSLE journey, you’re not alone. Small daily moments at home can bring back the rainbow.

At HiDolphin, we don’t just manage behaviours, we support brain development. We help children feel understood, empowered, transformed, and reconnected with themselves and their families.

Thankful for the opportunity to be featured in The Straits Times’ “Screen Timeout” series, where I shared on a topic close to my heart: “Excessive device use often a coping mechanism for deeper issues.”

In my clinical work, I often see how screen use becomes a way for children and young people to manage big feelings they may not yet have the words for.

Thank you to The Straits Times team for visiting HiDolphin’s Brain Power screen‑free overnight camp and for speaking with the parents. I appreciate the thoughtful conversations and the chance to share this work.

Appreciative of the opportunity to share my work as a poster presenter at the MEMI Conference

MEMI - Supporting Neurodivergent Children’s Emotional, Social & Learning Pathways

Since MEMI was introduced in Singapore in 2022, I’ve integrated it into my clinical work with neurodivergent children and youth. Over time, I’ve observed meaningful shifts in how many children regulate, connect, and participate, often reflecting their growing sense of safety and capacity.

Why Some Neurodivergent Children Struggle

Many behaviours reflect how a child’s brain processes information, emotions, and sensory input, such as:

• Feeling overwhelmed in social situations
• Expressing needs through actions when words are hard to access
• Avoiding eye contact because it feels intense or uncomfortable
• Playing alone or wandering during lessons due to sensory or attention differences
• Appearing “angry” when their nervous system is actually signalling anxiety or overload

These are not misbehaviour, they are signs of stress, sensory overload, or communication difficulty.

Areas Where MEMI Has Supported Children’s Growth
• Communication & Social Engagement
• Emotional Regulation
• Executive & Learning Function
• Boundary & Social Awareness

MEMI helps these changes by calming neurodivergent children’s nervous systems, strengthening emotional regulation, reducing arousal, emotional connection with others, increasing boundary awareness, enhancing social engagement and friendship-building, and supporting children as they begin their unlearning and relearning journey.

MEMI International Conference 2026

Proud to be a committee member again after 2024. After months of preparation, the conference is now live. We had another opportunity to meet MEMI creator Dr. Mike Deninger. His keynote was insightful, and the live demonstrations were deeply enriching. Every single demo by Dr. Mike offers new takeaways that continue to strengthen my skills and support my growth.

As part of the MEMI Asia founding team, I am also honoured to participate in the Day 1 panel discussion. Thank you to Dr. Joachim for the encouragement and for giving each of us the opportunity to share our work.

I am truly thankful to one of the parents who was open to sharing a video testimonial at the MEMI conference. The child’s journey moved from excessive screen activities back to real-life engagement. Without directly addressing the “addiction” behaviour, the outcome still changed because we worked on the underlying root causes. The child has shown increased learning interest and academic motivation. In addition, the child is now able to self‑manage daily routines more consistently and follow a structured study timetable with greater independence.

I walk this journey not only with the child, but with the family as well. I believe deeply that working with children is never about the child alone. Parent involvement always makes a difference.

For excessive gaming and screen use, MEMI helps even without focusing on the gaming behaviour itself. It works on the underlying “iceberg”, the root emotional layers beneath the surface. On the outside, a child may appear angry, but beneath the iceberg there may be anxiety, sadness, fear, or overwhelm. These are coping mechanisms. The child may not know this, and it doesn’t matter — the brain knows. The freeze, fight, and flight responses, the emotional outbursts, the body sensations… these are the things children often tell their parents they “cannot control”. They themselves don’t know why they react, and they often feel regret afterwards.

My first focus is to help the child regulate their body sensations, bring unconscious emotional processes into conscious awareness, and strengthen their self awareness. Calming the nervous system is key. This creates the foundation for processing and releasing the emotional responses held in the brain and body.

I am always thankful when children are ready for change. They want to change, they just don’t know how. MEMI helps them reconsolidate memories, think more healthily, act more calmly, and speak more beautifully. This is the beauty of MEMI: it helps shape the beautiful potential already inside each child.

For many children, MEMI feels like play, they have so much fun doing it in the therapy room. Some even greet me with, ‘Can we do MEMI today?’ the moment they walk in.

Today, 05.05, marks HiDolphin’s 2 year anniversary, a milestone that carries deep meaning for me as a parent, a psychotherapist, a licensed and SAC registered counsellor, and a founder.

Beyond counselling work, we integrate play therapy (sandtray, art, music), mindfulness, and brain based techniques to activate and strengthen brain functioning.

HiDolphin began with a simple belief: clinical work must be grounded in real experience, not theory alone. After completing the requirements to become a registered counsellor and SAC Clinical Member, I continue to gained thousands of hours of practice. From this foundation, HiDolphin was founded as a space where children and parents feel connected, heard, supported, and safe.

As a parent myself, I understand that parenting can feel beautiful, messy, exhausting, and meaningful, sometimes all at the same time😊Every child and family carries unique struggles, hopes, and emotional needs. Combining lived parenting experience with clinical practice allows me to support families with empathy, connection, and thoughtful therapeutic direction.

From a solo practice to a growing team, in 2 years, HiDolphin has conducted >2,000 neuro play-based clinical sessions.

From individual sessions to community programs
Across these 2 years, HiDolphin has expanded from:
• individual, sibling, and parent child sessions
• to small social groups
• to full day workshops
• and now to overnight camps for children
• parenting talk, a series of parenting talk in school and community settings

Our clinical work has also grown from:
• child and youth therapy
• to parenting work
• co parenting support
• three generation family work
• and individual parent clinical support

Our third year will bring even more meaningful work for children and parents:
• new joint programs
• a community-based children’s support program
• and the upcoming of clinical assessments
• as well as expansion of HiDolphin Brain Power program

Thank you to every child, parent, school, and community partner who has trusted us. Your courage and openness make this work meaningful every single day. Here’s to Year 3, growing together, learning together, and supporting families with heart, clarity, and purpose.

Many children don’t yet have the words to explain their worries. Their struggles often appear through shifts in behaviour, emotions, or social interactions, early signs that they may be feeling overwhelmed.

At HiDolphin Counselling, we support children through play therapy (sandtray, art, music) and brain‑based techniques that help them feel safe, understood, and empowered.

We work by shifting how the brain and nervous system respond to stress:
• 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 and deactivates distressing emotional responses
• 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, helping children return to a regulated state more quickly
• 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 that support clearer thinking, planning, decision making, attention, and memory
• 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, allowing children to interrupt unhealthy behavioural patterns and cycles
• 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 to sound, touch, light, environmental changes, and visual input
• 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 clearly and confidently

Children learn and apply these brain‑based strategies both at home and in school. When the brain is calm and the body is no longer overwhelmed by sensory distress, healthier behaviours and kinder words naturally follow.

Through therapy, children learn to:
* Understand and regulate their emotions
* Build resilience and healthy coping skills
* Feel safe, heard, and supported

Early support isn’t about labelling.
It’s about understanding your child’s needs early, so they can grow with confidence and emotional strength before challenges become bigger.

If you’ve been noticing changes in your child and are unsure what they mean, you don’t have to navigate it alone.

📩 Reach out for a confidential counselling / psychotherapy session.
Let’s explore how we can support your child’s emotional wellbeing with child‑friendly skills, playful engagement, and compassion. Let us walk alongside you on this journey, hand in hand.

✨ Follow us for professional insights on child development, emotional health, behaviour support, and child‑centred, family‑focused, strength‑based therapeutic approaches.
