LIFE, which stands for Learn, Inspire, Facilitate and Empower, reflects our commitment to building a culture of continuous learning, professional excellence and organisational readiness.

By investing in the development of our people, we enhance skills, build confidence and strengthen preparedness. This enables us to deliver safe, high quality care and achieve better outcomes for the patients and communities we serve.

This achievement was made possible through strong collaboration across the SingHealth family. We extend our sincere appreciation to our colleagues from NHCS, SGH and SKH, as well as our clinical educators, instructors, operations and administrative teams whose dedication brought the LIFE Centre to fruition.

Our volunteer Mdm Agnes Chiew shares her volunteering journey ☺️

She was inspired to volunteer after witnessing her brother’s rapid decline and death from brain atrophy a few years ago and now volunteers actively in OCH, supporting patients through games, activities, and companionship while often listening to their personal stories. Her experience engaging with terminally ill patients has also deepened her reflections on life, and after undergoing a medical episode herself last year, it has strengthened her empathy for patients and reinforced her dedication to spreading kindness, comfort, and joy through long‑term volunteering.

Mdm Chiew was also a recipient at the recent SingHealth Inspirational Patient and Caregiver Awards Ceremony in recognition of her contributions to OCH!

It’s the holiday season! If you are travelling with Seniors with chronic conditions, here’s how you can travel safely with the right preparation ☺️

Dr Gwendoline Tan, Consultant at OCH, advises scheduling a pre-travel health assessment a few weeks before departure to ensure conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease are stable. Seniors should pack sufficient medication with extra supplies, keep a medical history summary handy, and confirm travel insurance covers pre-existing conditions. During the journey, staying hydrated, moving regularly, and taking medications on time are essential.

Caregivers should watch for warning signs such as chest pain, sudden confusion, or persistent vomiting, and seek medical attention promptly rather than waiting.

The SingHealth Community Hospitals (SCH) team was in Kyoto for the International Social Prescribing Conference from 27 to 28 May 2026, joining partners from across the region to advance conversations on social prescribing and integrated care.

Our colleagues contributed to discussions on Building the Evidence Base for Social Prescribing in the Western Pacific, as part of The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific Series launch, to which SCH is proud to have contributed three articles supporting countries in the Western Pacific region on the implementation of social prescribing in ways that are meaningful to their local culture and context.

The team also conducted a workshop at the conference, sharing our experience in implementing social prescribing within an integrated regional health system in Singapore, and represented on the panel for “Social Prescribing Across the Globe: Practices and Challenges from Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and North America”, contributing to global perspectives and moderating discussions across regions.

Very glad to be part of this important platform, learning from and alongside regional partners as we continue shaping more connected, community-based care together!

This World Digestive Health Day, let’s talk gut health 💚

Dr Wong Ann Mei, Consultant, Post-Acute & Continuing Care at SingHealth Community Hospitals, shares that common symptoms like bloating, abdominal discomfort, diarrhoea and constipation can often be linked to stress and lifestyle habits. While mild symptoms may improve with rest, hydration and dietary changes, persistent symptoms or warning signs should not be ignored.

By adopting healthier routines, managing stress, staying active and seeking timely medical review when needed, we can better support our digestive health and overall wellbeing. 😊
