Many people worry they'll never exercise normally again after lumbar fusion surgery.

The truth is that movement is an important part of recoveryβ€”but the right movement at the right time.

Recovery is typically progressive:
βœ… Restore flexibility and nerve mobility
βœ… Rebuild core stability
βœ… Improve walking endurance and fitness
βœ… Regain the strength needed for work, sports and daily life

This reel shows just one sample exercise from each stage of rehabilitation. Your programme will vary depending on:
β€’ The level and type of fusion
β€’ Your symptoms
β€’ Your surgeon's instructions
β€’ Your recovery progress

There's no "one-size-fits-all" timeline, so don't compare your recovery with someone else's.

With the right guidance, many people return to work, travel, recreational sports and the activities they enjoy.

Your body wasn't designed to sit still all day. Even the "perfect" sitting posture becomes uncomfortable if you stay there long enough. That's why the best solution isn't finding one magical position. It's building movement into your day.

A few simple exercises every couple of hours can help reduce stiffness, wake up tired muscles, and make long desk days feel much more manageable.

Think of it as giving your body a reset button. Which exercise are you adding to your workday routine?

Most office workers don't spend eight hours sitting in one position. Instead, we slowly drift into whatever feels comfortable.

One leg tucked underneath. Leaning onto an armrest. Sitting cross-legged. Perched on the edge of the chair. None of these positions is automatically bad.

The issue starts when we stay there for hours without moving. Our bodies love variety. The longer we stay in one position, the more likely stiffness, tension, and discomfort begin to creep in.

The goal isn't perfect posture. It's giving your body regular opportunities to move. What's your go-to sitting position when nobody's watching?

Stiff, popping knees can sometimes be linked to muscle tightness, joint stiffness, or movement patterns that place extra stress on the knee.

Improving mobility and strengthening the surrounding muscles may help reduce discomfort and improve knee function.

Consistency is key. Simple exercises and stretches performed regularly can go a long way in keeping your knees moving smoothly and feeling their best.

If the popping persists or begins to hurt, visit a physiotherapist or sports medicine doctor for a professional movement assessment and treatment.

Knee popping is one of the most common concerns we hear in the clinic.

For some people, it happens every time they squat. Others notice it when walking upstairs, standing up, or exercising. The sound itself can be alarming, especially when it seems to happen all the time.

The good news? A noisy knee isn't always a problematic knee.

What matters more is how your knee feels. Is it comfortable? Strong? Stable? Or is the sound accompanied by pain, swelling, locking, or giving way?

Understanding the difference can save a lot of unnecessary worry. Do your knees pop when you squat?

Some days your body just feels heavy.

Whether it's from a tough gym session, a long day at work, or simply not moving enough, that stiffness can make everything feel harder than it should.

When that happens, you don't always need an intense workout. Sometimes a few minutes of intentional movement can help you feel more comfortable, move more freely, and reset for the rest of the day.

These are some of our favourite stretches for those days when your body needs a little extra attention.

Save this for the next time you're feeling tight.

Most people separate mobility work and strength training.

But some of the best exercises do both.

These movements strengthen your muscles while taking them through larger ranges of motion, helping you build:
βœ… Strength
βœ… Mobility
βœ… Stability
βœ… Movement confidence

Because flexibility without strength is hard to use, and strength without mobility can limit how you move.

Which of these would you try first?
