Another fruitful year at ! šŸŽ‰

CSI Singapore successfully concluded another productive year at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2026, where we hosted an exhibitor booth and participated in the AACR Career Fair. Since launching our first exhibitor booth at AACR in 2023, the initiative has become an important platform for showcasing Singapore’s vibrant cancer research ecosystem on the global stage, while fostering new scientific connections and attracting talent from around the world.

Congratulations to our outstanding CSI members who had been shortlisted for poster presentation! A special mention to CSI PI, Dr. Jason Pitt who was selected to give an Educational Session, LKY Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Stephen Chong, who clinched the AACR Scholar-in-training Award and Ms. Rui Xue Lee who attended AACR 2026 as an International Poster Prize Awardee.

Throughout the conference, our Outreach team together with CSI researchers and students generously volunteered their time to engage with visitors, share their research, and offer first-hand perspectives on life and science at CSI Singapore. In addition to promoting CSI Singapore's research activities, the team connected with numerous prospective candidates interested in pursuing opportunities through our PhD Graduate Program, Special Fellowship and current job openings.

Thank you to all staff and students who contributed their time and expertise!

We're proud to share that CSI Director, Prof. Ashok Venkitaraman, and CSI PI, Dr. Jason Pitt, were featured yesterday on a Channel News Asia news segment highlighting the role of AI, supercomputing and sovereign health data in advancing precision medicine in Singapore.

Dr. Jason Pitt highlighted how supercomputing and AI enable researchers to analyse large-scale datasets and develop models that support more effective, personalised cancer treatments. Prof. Ashok Venkitaraman emphasised that Singapore's sovereign health data can be analysed securely within local governance frameworks, advancing precision medicine while safeguarding patient privacy and valuable national data resources.

We’re pleased to share a snippet of Ms. Shruti Sridhar's talk from the Diana Koh Breakthroughs in Cancer Learning Series #2. Supported by the Diana Koh Fund, this series helps nurture early-career researchers and catalyze impactful scientific advancement.

Shruti Sridhar presents ā€œThe Real Estate Secrets of Cancerā€ which explores how cancer cells reshape and exploit their surrounding microenvironment — their ā€˜real estate’ — to grow, spread, and evade treatment. View her entire talk here: https://youtu.be/kBdttPxy4I0

Heartiest congratulations to our Principal Investigator, Dr. Jason Pitt and team for their publication.

Researchers from the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore (CSI Singapore) have identified eight previously unknown DNA change patterns linked to breast cancer.

Led by Dr Jason Pitt, the study analysed nearly 2,800 cancer genomes to better understand how tumours develop and respond to treatment.

The team also launched CNA Visualizer, an open-access platform that allows researchers worldwide to explore cancer genome patterns and clinical outcomes interactively.

The findings could support future diagnostics and targeted therapies for breast cancer patients.

Deputy Director of CSI Singapore, Prof. Goh Boon Cher has been awarded the NMRC Singapore Translational Research (STaR) Investigator Award for a groundbreaking project:

šŸ§¬ā€œAdvancing Immunotherapy for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma through
VEGF/PD1 Blockade: Mechanisms, Biomarkers, and Clinical Translationā€.

Prof. Goh Boon Cher is a clinician scientist who specialises in cancer pharmacology and functional genomics. By coupling innovative biomarker discovery pipeline with the appropriate research validation tools, he leads a team of clinicians and scientists to identify early cancer markers and actionable mutations that could be implemented in biomarker-driven clinical trials. The overarching goal is to improve the cancer-screening process and provide better treatment options to cancer patients.
