So much to take home — not just ideas, but inspiration for how we build better care for our patients, especially in survivorship.

Grateful for an energising evening with our NCCS fellows — as we bid farewell to one who has spent almost a year with us, and warmly welcome three who are just beginning their journey. As Deputy Director of Postgraduate Education at NCCS, it was a privilege to hear firsthand their experiences, challenges, and hopes at this pivotal point.

Our conversation went far beyond clinical work:
• Adjusting to life and work in Singapore
• Research opportunities and mentorship
• IT and system access
• Housing, transport and settling in
• Food, community and connection
• And even creating a “First Week in NCCS” guide to help future fellows start strong

These rich, honest reflections reaffirm how much more we can do to strengthen, support and uplift our international fellows. Their insights are invaluable — and together, we can shape a fellowship experience that is rigorous, meaningful and deeply human-centred.

Deep appreciation to our outstanding PGEU team — Hafiz, Jasmine and Rachel — whose dedication behind the scenes makes all of this possible.

Here’s to building systems, structures and communities that help our fellows truly thrive. ✨

☀️ Bright and early start — rounds at 7am before heading into the SingHealth DukeNUS Scientific Congress this morning. Coffee in hand ☕ (definitely essential today!).

It’s always energising to celebrate the achievements of colleagues, reconnect with friends, and be inspired by the breadth of work happening across our community. Events like this don’t just “happen” — so much effort goes in behind the scenes, and I’m truly grateful to the organising committee for pulling off something of this scale 👏.

This is only part 1 of the day — after this, it’s on to the National BCAM flagship opening ceremony, and later tonight, the Surgeons’ Academic Night. A marathon of science, community, and connection ahead! ❤️

We are where we are, because we have stood on the shoulders of the giants that have come before us.
This 5th Anniversary Dinner was planned to honour our past, present and the future of DSSO. We are priviledged to have Prof Nambiar join us as our Distinguished Guest Speaker, sharing his anecdotes and wisdom over the years. We also take this chance to honour the giants who have led the Department of General Surgery, and the Division of Surgery and Surgical Oncology, to the heights we have come to today. Thank you, Profs, for gracing us with your presence, and for all you have done for us.
