COPD is a common illness that causes a great deal of suffering worldwide. In developed countries, it is the only major fatal disease of which the death rate is increasing - a disparity all the more striking amid the dramatic decline in deaths from other major illnesses such as coronary artery disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular disorders. It has been estimated that a million years of life ar

e lost each year worldwide because of COPD. In Singapore it is likely that more than 60,000 people suffer from it. Yet, unless you or a loved one have symptoms of the disease, you are unlikely to have come across the term "COPD.
