🎨 Is Early Colour Vision Screening Necessary for Your Child?
In today’s colour-coded classrooms, children with Colour Vision Deficiency (CVD) may see learning materials differently often without anyone realising. Early screening isn’t about labelling a problem; it’s about removing hidden barriers to confidence and academic performance.
💡 What You Should Know:
• CVD means seeing certain colours differently — not in black and white
• About 1 in 12 boys and 1 in 200 girls are affected
• Signs can be subtle: unusual colouring, difficulty with maps or colour-coded tasks, or avoiding art activities
🎯 Why Screen Early (Ages 4–6)?
• Identify challenges before Primary 1
• Ensure fair learning support and exam access arrangements (e.g. PSLE)
• Help children adapt and thrive academically and socially
✅ Screening is simple, child-friendly, and stress-free
✅ Early awareness helps your child succeed without unnecessary frustration
Early detection empowers families and schools to make small adjustments that create big differences.

Live Replay 🎥 “Is there any way to detect lazy eye early?”

Many parents assume they would notice immediately if something was wrong with their child’s eyesight. But would you know what signs to look out for in your own child? Some vision issues can be surprisingly easy to miss, especially in younger children who may not realise they are seeing differently.

Dr Cheryl Ngo (Adult & Child Eye - ACE Clinic) shares some of the signs parents should pay attention to and why regular eye checks would be important to pick these up early.

Noticed one eyelid looking lower than the other? In many children, this is mild and part of normal development.
A droopy eyelid (ptosis) simply means the upper eyelid sits lower than usual. It often looks more obvious when your child is tired, unwell, or after a long day of screen time.
✅ Most mild cases do not affect vision
⚠️ Take note if the eyelid covers the pupil, your child tilts their head to see, or it worsens over time
Encourage good sleep, outdoor play, and regular screen breaks.
If unsure, an eye check can give you peace of mind. 👀✨

*New Clinical Guidelines for Childhood Myopia in Singapore*

Singapore is often called the “myopia capital of the world,” with roughly 65% of our children developing shortsightedness by the time they finish primary school.

In conjunction with Myopia Awareness Week, the College of Ophthalmologists (Academy of Medicine, Singapore) has officially published the new *Consensus Guidelines on the Management of Childhood Myopia in Singapore*.

These clinical guidelines compile the latest evidence-based strategies to help eye care professionals, pediatricians, and general practitioners effectively slow down myopia progression in young patients. From lifestyle interventions like outdoor time to optical treatments and pharmacological options (like low-dose atropine), this document serves as Singapore’s updated clinical roadmap.

Key takeaways highlighted in the guidelines include:

*Outdoor Time*: Aim for at least 2 hours of daily outdoor activity to help protect children’s vision development.

*The 20-20-20 Rule*: Take regular breaks from close-up digital screens.

*Early Intervention*: Identifying “pre-myopia” early gives clinicians the best window to safely step in and slow down rapid axial length elongation.
