In Episode 1 of Deep Skin Talks, Dr. Tan Wang Theng sits down with Airin Lee from ARLY to explore what it really means to treat the skin at different depths.

From lasers and microneedling to radiofrequency, ultrasound and Emface, they break down how each technology works, which layer of the skin it targets, and why different concerns require different approaches.

Most aesthetic treatments create a controlled injury or biological stimulus that activates your skin’s natural repair process. Over the following weeks, inflammation settles, new collagen forms, and the skin gradually remodels itself.

Treating too soon doesn’t speed up results. It can interrupt recovery, increase irritation, and reduce your skin’s ability to respond optimally.

That’s why treatments are often spaced around 4 weeks apart (or longer, depending on the treatment). Each session builds on the last, allowing your skin enough time to heal before the next signal.

The best results don’t come from doing more in one session, but from consistent, well-timed treatments that work with your skin’s biology.

Most conversations about aging skin focus on collagen. How do we make more of it? Is Ultherapy, radiofrequency or laser the best for stimulating it? Which serum boosts it?

But there is a more fundamental question that often goes unasked: Can Your Cell Still Afford to Respond?

Every collagen-boosting skincare product and energy-based treatment is, in essence, an instruction to your cells. Retinoids tell fibroblasts to produce collagen and encourage epidermal cells to renew more rapidly. Radiofrequency, ultrasound and other energy-based devices create controlled stimulation that demands fibroblasts to repair and regenerate collagen and elastin. Stem cell exosomes deliver biological signals that help coordinate cellular repair and healing.

Yet many people reach a point where they seem to be doing everything right — investing in quality skincare, undergoing treatments and following expert advice — only to find that the results are less impressive than their friends.

Perhaps the problem is not the instruction. Perhaps it is the cell’s ability to carry it out.

We know you all do it: ask AI your beauty questions 👀

So we asked Dr Mag to review the answers. The verdict: AI is definitely helpful for general information, but not a replacement for a proper consultation.

That laser worked wonders for your friend might do nothing for you. Because every person’s skin tone, sensitivity, and underlying concern is unique, a single laser is rarely the “best” fit for everyone.
