Walking meetings are always the best.

Terrence Chee updated me on how work has been in Singapore since he arrived on an employment pass.

We talked about the...

👉 Standard of living;
👉 Rent;
👉 Ease of public transport;
👉 Plethora and variety of food options;
👉 Healthcare accessibility and cost.

compared to Penang, Malaysia, where he is from.

Overall the novelty of working in a new country is still there with no complaints whatsoever! 🥳♥️🥳

We ended the session where he decided he should get very affordable personal hospitalisation insurance because what his employer provides is insufficient in event of any unfortunate/unplanned mishap.

Such conversations are important and the two simple questions you'll want to ask yourself regarding your protection needs is...

✔️ Have or don't have?
✔️ Enough or not enough?

Welcoming Darren Soon to the team!

And it happened serendipitously.

2 years ago, Darren signed up for my webinar

From Overwhelm to Clarity.

It took us awhile to sync up the post-webinar call and another couple of weeks for that in-person coffee chat...

but fast forward to December 2025,

he decided to join the team! 🥳

And this photo was taken last week, 7 months after he officially joined the team.

All smiles because we celebrate our successes, and also how we're supporting others with life planning and wellbeing, combining life coaching with financial advisory.

And most importantly aligned on using our God-given talents, skills and experiences to do His work.

Ever since becoming a father 8 years ago...

Everyday I wonder how I can better prepare my 3 little ones for life - currently 8, 5 and 2 year old kiddos.

What will I leave behind...

What can I leave behind...

And increasingly also I wonder, what happens if God decides that my time is up...

and the life I envisioned living tilll 95 years old will be prematurely taken away.

My wife and I spend a lot of time with the kids.

We're both business owners in our own right so we have that flexibility.

We try our best to model the way,

and impart values we hope will stick for life.

And that they can and will find similar positive traits, that are aligned to those nurtured from our family environment, in their future partners.

But apart from that,

we also want to make sure there is enough money to put them through different life stages;

and that there will always be a safety net sum for them to tap into, with T&C to be fulfilled before they can unlock the monies.

Regardless of whether we're surviving or deceased.

Incidentally that's the same thought that my clients (who are parents) have and I walk them through the options available for estate, legacy and succession planning.

If you're a parent like me, sandwich generation with young children, I feel you.

Let's talk through how best you can plan your family's next 10, 20, 50 years regardless of whether your time is prematurely up! 🙏🙏🙏

Thought I'd reintroduce myself to those I've known since my previous roles...
.. and might be confused or unsure of what I'm up to at the moment.

I work with individuals and leaders navigating transition—bringing clarity, strategy, and grounded confidence to pivotal decisions. I do this through my consultancy, Aviary & Co., and as a representative of Great Eastern Financial Advisers Pte LTD and Great Eastern General Insurance.

By integrating coaching, identity work and life planning—bridging the spiritual, emotional and financial dimensions of life, I support clients to make aligned decisions rather than reactive ones.

As much as I support my clients through:
•⁠ ⁠career transition or reinvention
•⁠ ⁠leadership role changes
•⁠ ⁠personal identity shifts
•⁠ ⁠life restructuring after major events
•⁠ ⁠long-term planning for the next phase of growth

Over the past 20 years, I have taken a distinctly non-linear life path, leading across different industries in Singapore and Thailand. This journey includes rebuilding after a failed business, navigating divorce, overcoming PTSD, and recovering from a severe sports injury - experiences that deeply inform my work today.

As a former Singapore national water polo player who represented the country at the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and SEA Games, I draw on the resilience and discipline forged through elite sport.

Now in my late forties, I live as an “everyday athlete,” committed to holistic wellbeing, faith, and family life with my wife and three young children.

Blessed Sabbath everyone.

Hope everyone's had a lovely week.

If you haven't, take a moment to reflect on what you can still be grateful for today despite the not so ideal week.

Prayer works.

And its when we least expect it that God reveals the answers to us.

All we need to be able to do is listen with an open heart and humble spirit.

Dad is 85 years old.

Am making up for lost time I did not get to spend with Dad during my teenage and young adulting years because of commitment to water polo and also spending time with then girlfriends!

Taking time off work to be with Dad, learning more about our past and his childhood.

Entrepreneurship allows me that flexibility to plan my time this way.

Valuable life lessons and wisdom that I can apply to fatherhood, being a better husband, and even in entrepreneurship.

Cherishing this season of life!

Thank you Dad for taking time.

The heavens were very kind to us last Friday...

because we were blessed with good cloudy weather in the afternoon.

And the storm only came when we arrived back at SCCCI which was where we began our Netwalking.

3 location stops with each location stop having group rotations and facilitated well created questions to help each member share more with their designated group.

Each group accompanied by Council Members from the committee who also had their chance to share how they've been successful in their business, and for members to engage and ask questions.

My 3rd time planning, hosting and facilitating for this Netwalking series and so happy once again to see all smiles and receive positive feedback.

So wonderful to also have participants Terry Lee and Haotian Gao come up on stage to share something close to their heart. 2mins of impromptu "TED style" engagement. 🥳

I've known Adrian Tay for a couple of years now.

And just the other day his name popped up in my head.

I reached out to catch up.

We hadn't seen each other in maybe 2 years.

No agenda.

Just catch up.

I wanted to know if there was any way I could support him in anything he is currently working on in this season of life.

Sharing how I have been supporting others with various examples definitely helped him better understand where I am now in my own season of life.

It was a very authentic and meaningful kopi catchup.

Feeling blessed.

And a heart full of gratitude.

That's a table full of ALOT of plates of food!

Well... the occasion called for the feast. 🍽

Thank you Reginald Koh Dawn Fiona Cher Cheryl Lau for the lovely conversation and company that afternoon.

But more importantly, for the care, love and support as the The Financial Coconut team behind the Wise & Shine show that I had the privilege of joining and co-hosting with Dawn Fiona Cher since maybe episode #60 plus.

till our final episode which was #160.

From first being a guest on the show to eventually co-hosting it with Dawn Fiona Cher.

I've grown so much as a host as we manuevered multiple difficult conversations (and guests!) to tease out and dive deeper into what our guests have to share with our audience.

But most importantly, I've grown from the lived experiences and expert knowledge of every guest that took time from their busy schedules to share.

Extra mention to Raven Lim and Taro Ishida who were there when I first joined but moved on to other adventures after. 🤗

Fun-fact:

I've co-hosted with Dawn for more than a year and she just only discovered some things about my past experiences.

Like being the second shop owner to open along Haji Lane in 2005. Selling Ice Cream and vintage reconstructed homewares!

haha... it goes to show that when we're on set, we are so focused on delivering for the day, that we have little time and space to dive deeper to talk about ourselves in the little pockets of time we have together.
