The Burmese people are known to apply the herbal preparation of the bark of Hesperethusa Crenulata (Thanaka) over their face and body for protection from environmental harshness, strong sun, insects, and for many skincare purposes. Thanaka is the primary skincare and cosmetic for the women. Research studies had shown that the medicinal bark has anti bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-aging and antioxidants properties. It also inhibits tyrosinase and absorbs UV radiation. There are many commercial preparation of Thanaka bark powder, but the grinding of raw thanaka bark on the circular slate slab, mix with water has a greater efficacy.
