Started by Dr Vanessa Lin, a Veterinary Surgeon with varied international experience (Australia, Malaysia and Singapore) experienced in diagnosing and treating animal illnesses, and performing surgery. My Family Vet Clinic and Surgery pride ourselves in providing the best possible care for our patients and clients. We strive to provide high quality, ethical and personalised care for your animals a

nd giving you a peace of mind that you are getting the best advice possible. We are open and approachable when problems arise and to discuss alternative options and treatment so to provide accessible preventative health care, to ensure all animals are offered a chance of avoiding preventable diseases. Dr Lin also has a keen interest in dermatology, soft tissue surgeries and Chinese medicine therapies for pets. She had worked in an emergency hospital and gained good experience in caring of critical patients, which demands competence in treating trauma lesions, and correcting medical or surgical disorder. Whilst we sincerely hope your animal never has cause to visit us apart from receiving preventative health care and routine check ups, please do not hesitate to contact us if you notice anything unusual or abnormal about your pet or if you have any questions about or require any assistance regarding your animal. 🎨🐾 Can colours affect your pet’s environment?

Pets do not see colours the same way humans do, but colours, lighting, bedding, toys, and the overall setup of their space can still help create a calmer and more comfortable environment.

🐱 For cats, softer tones such as blue or green may help create a more peaceful-looking resting area, especially when paired with quiet spaces, hiding spots, and comfortable bedding.

🐶 For dogs, blue and yellow are easier for them to distinguish, which is why these colours can be useful when choosing toys, enrichment items, or bedding.

💛 You may have noticed that yellow is part of our clinic’s colour theme too!
Yellow is one of the colours dogs can see more easily, and for people, it often gives a warm, bright, and welcoming impression. That is why we chose yellow as part of My Family Vet’s look — to help our clinic feel cheerful, approachable, and less scary for both pets and their owners.

✨ More importantly, avoid overly bright lights, loud surroundings, and sudden changes in their space, as these can sometimes make pets feel more unsettled.

🐾 *Did you know? Dogs can develop diabetes too?*

Meet *Elmi, our spirited Schnauzer patient. Diagnosed with diabetes in November 2025, Elmi certainly has a strong personality and likes things done her way! She is also a very interactive dog and has a uniquely amusing response whenever her owner says, *"See Dr Vanessa!" 😂 (Check out the attached videos!)

Her dedicated family performs regular blood glucose checks at home using a glucometer and follows a strict diabetic management plan, including a prescription diet and multiple small meals throughout the day.

Thanks to their commitment, consistency, and excellent teamwork, Elmi's diabetes is now well controlled, and she is doing very well. 💙

Some signs of diabetes in dogs to watch out for include:
🔹 Drinking more water than usual
🔹 Urinating more frequently
🔹 Increased appetite
🔹 Weight loss despite eating well
🔹 Lethargy or reduced activity
🔹 Development of cataracts or cloudy eyes

Early diagnosis and proper management can help diabetic pets continue to enjoy a happy and comfortable life.
