Maintaining your child’s eyesight starts with observing a proper diet.

Here are 6 food that can help to maintain a healthy vision:
Fish such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel are great sources of omega-3 fatty acids. They help maintain lubrication in your child’s eyes and prevent dry eye syndrome.

Green vegetables contain high levels of lutein and zeaxanthin. The carotenoids produced by plants have potent antioxidative properties which help ward off free radicals in your eyes.

Eggs and carrots are rich in vitamin A. They can help prevent night blindness and dry eyes. Carrots also contain high levels of beta-carotene, which is a precursor of this vitamin. They maintain your child’s ocular structural integrity and promote healthy functioning of their eye components.

There is no catch-all home remedy to treat myopia. Corrective lenses or surgery are still the most effective treatments for myopia, but here are some ways to slow the progression of myopia naturally.

1. Increase the Time You Spend Outside
Spending more time outdoors during early adult years may decrease the lifetime risk of nearsightedness due to the sun’s ultraviolet rays changing the molecular structure of the sclera and cornea and help maintain a normal shape.

2. Protect Your Eyes from the Sun
Wearing sunglasses will protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays and help slow the progression of myopia if you spend a lot of time outdoors.

3. Eat Healthily
Try to eat plenty of leafy greens, vegetables, and fruits. Your eyes benefit if you also include fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as tuna and salmon, in your diet.

4. Reduce Eyestrain
Taking breaks from looking at screens and letting your eyes get proper rest can help slow the progression of myopia.

5. Don’t Smoke
Smoking has many detrimental effects, and it can negatively affect your eyesight and those around you. Avoid smoking to slow the progression of myopia.

Fully Customized Orthokeratology treatment for myopia control - A treatment involves wearing a fully customized lens moulded to sleep to reshape the corneas into a better focusing system. It has a higher success rate of 99.6% myopia control (based on in-house data).

Myopia Control Glasses - It has a lower rate of control, at 37-60% as compared to Ortho K lens treatment. This means that if a child’s myopia increases by 100 degrees per year, it will increase by 50 to 75.
