Communication and mobility are the ultimate dream team! 🤝✨
When movement and expression come together, it unlocks a whole new world of independence, connection, and everyday fun! 🚀💡
At Healthy Strides, we know there’s no "one size fits all" when it comes to sharing your thoughts. That’s why we customise communication tools to match each child’s unique needs and strengths.
Integrated into sessions, opportunities are always given for children to communicate what they need and want whether it is through:
🔘 Switches
📖 PODD books
🪪 Symbol cards and
🤟 Key Word Sign!
Every child has something important to say, and we love helping them find the tools to say it loud and clear! 🗣️❤️
What’s your child’s favourite way to connect and share?

What an incredible group of dedicated and passionate allied health therapists in Singapore! 🇸🇬🤩
Last week, this wonderful group of physios, occupational therapists, therapy assistants and a speech pathologist 😉, gathered to share stories and ideas - like minded, evidence based and just wanting the best for kids in Singapore. Representing community, private practice and hospital, excellence in care can be achieved when we work together!
We will continue to develop our community by bringing professional development and networking opportunities into this great city. So if you're an allied health and would like to join us for our future gatherings - get in touch and send us a DM!
It's the Healthy Strides Research Network! 😍🤩 - more on this to come but a big hint - it is so exciting!! 🎉

How do we know if therapy is working?

While we can "feel" like something is working, the best way to know is to measure it! And yes - you can definitely measure if therapy is working for each individual child based on their goals, age and diagnosis.

One of the ways to measure change - real change, is the Gross Motor Function Measure. It is valid and reliable and gives us an objective way of seeing if therapy actually made a difference or not. This is the premise of outcomes based therapy.

We use the results to tell us what worked well and where the next area to focus on is. This gives us a structured path forward - making the best of the time we get with each child by avoiding excessive therapy which costs time and money!

All of our programs at Healthy Strides are based on not just good solid evidence but are also measured for real accountability and planning. You don't have to ask for it, it is all included 😊

Allowing children to be their cheeky-selves is the key to making therapy an enjoyed, not endured process! 🥰

When kids like Emilia can freely express themselves but have fun in the moment, it teaches them positive reinforcement. They make cognitively engaged decisions, choices that empower them, that showcases their motivation and intrigue and it leads to the very best results!

Therapy should not simply be done to children, it is done with them - sometimes it's the play aspect of therapy, that whilst it looks like playtime, it makes the "work" of therapy enjoyable - and they choose to repeat, to try again, to learn a new skill and make progress. ♥️

It's cutting edge research in action - at Healthy Strides we don't provide any manual facilitation techniques like DMI, CME, NDT or Vojta. We follow the latest science, providing only evidence based interventions!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review!

"Healthy Strides is such a great place for individually paced developmental growth. Our daughter has seen healthy strides in Perth, Australia and now in Singapore".

"We couldn’t be more happy with their level of commitment, safety and especially the care they put into our child’s specific needs. She learned to walk, express herself more, and she absolutely loves coming here".

"Much thanks to the Healthy Strides staff, you guys are truly awesome!"

🥰 Thank you! It is our great privilege to support the children and families of Singapore and beyond! ❤️

Therapy should be enjoyed, not endured - it is how we give children their dignity, happiness and joy.

We believe that children should love their childhood

Anyone for a bit of Mario Kart therapy? 🏎️🕹️
Well - it's not (just) about an Italian plumber and his go-kart friends but it is about accessibility and switches - learning new skills, all the whilst having a whole load of fun! 🤩
From learning to use accessibility switches, to gaining new upper limb skills, to head control and more - it's all about using technology in a fun and innovative way to empower children and young adults of all ages and abilities! 🥰
Fun fact: Healthy Strides (Australia) was the first clinic outside of Japan to utilise the Horii Flex Controller as part of our upper limb therapy suite of tools.
We've been using the Flex controller since 2020 - deciphering the 🇯🇵 Japanese manuals before it was even available in English!
For anyone interested, our team from Australia even has a guide on using it with the Tobii Eye Gaze for control with just your eyes! 👀 see Healthy Strides Foundation for all the details.

With decades of experience providing the latest research and evidence based interventions for children with neurodisabilities, Healthy Strides is now proud to present S.T.A.R.T.
What is S.T.A.R.T?
It is the very latest in research and evidence - it's not a brand, it's not tied into a product, it's the next generation of therapy services.
🔵 Self initiation
Therapy begins with the child’s choice and brain-driven motivation. Instead of the therapist starting every movement, we create environments where the child decides to begin. This taps intrinsic drive, activates cognitive engagement, and builds true autonomy. It's true cognitive engagement.
🟢 Task Specificity
We target exactly the skills that matter in daily life — climbing stairs at home, playing on the playground, or getting dressed. Specificity ensures the brain wires for real contexts, leading to better transfer than isolated exercises.
🟡 Accelerated Learning
Intensity is smart, not maximum. We use science and data to inform us of the required intensity. We use optimal dosing with built-in rest and consolidation periods so the brain can actually form and strengthen new pathways. Over-intensity without recovery can spike cortisol, which studies confirm inhibits neuroplasticity in the motor cortex.
🟠 Real World Application
We use whole-task practice in natural or simulated everyday settings — a child learns to stand up from the floor by actually practising getting up in a play scenario, not isolated leg lifts. Systematic reviews confirm whole-task, task-oriented training produces significantly better functional gains, balance, and participation than part-task or equipment-heavy methods.
🟣 Transformation
The ultimate goal: therapy becomes a joyful journey. When children form positive associations — laughing, choosing, succeeding — powerful neuroplastic responses follow.
Confidence grows, independence blooms, and a love of learning emerges.
