An a**l fistula is a tract that forms from the inside of the a**s to the skin near the a**s, which can cause pain, skin irritation around the a**s, and the discharge of pus or blood.

In most cases, it develops after an a**l abscess fails to heal properly. That said, a fistula can sometimes form even without a previous a**l abscess.

Other common causes of a**l fistulas may include:
