On CNA938’s Our Town with Susan Ng, we shared how the NUS–Synapxe–IMDA AI Innovation Challenge 2026 helped bring up the next generation of tech and AI talent.

Dr Goh Han Leong, Senior Principal Specialist from Synapxe’s Data Analytics & AI, together with Team Assure, the champion team he mentored from the Challenge, discussed how such initiatives provide students a safe space to ideate, experiment and innovate practical solutions.

In this year’s Challenge, over 880 students tackled the use of AI to prevent, monitor and manage chronic diseases. What stood out most were not just the ideas, but their practical thinking behind it. As Dr Goh noted, students weren't just asking, “Can AI do this?”. They were also asking, ‘Should AI do this, and how can it create meaningful value for patients and caregivers?’

Simplifying how authorised private healthcare providers access Singapore's National Electronic Health Record – securely, seamlessly, and in a single click.

Also, congratulations to NHG Health on the recognition of the for their Patient Self-Service Booth (PSSB) and Digital Pathology System (DPS)!

The PSSB is an all-in-one kiosk solution delivering a seamless end-to-end experience from appointment registration to bill payment across NHG Health institutions. While DPS gives pathologists real-time, remote access to high-resolution digitised slides of human tissue from hospitals – enabling cross-institutional collaboration and timely access to sub-specialty expertise.

There is still much work ahead, as we continue to build the infrastructure that enables Singapore's Public Healthcare to be future-ready.
