National University Health System

The National University Health System (NUHS) is an integrated Academic Health System and Regional Health System in Singapore that delivers value-driven, innovative and sustainable healthcare. Throughout the history of our institutions, our staff has worked across the health system to advance the tripartite missions of achieving clinical excellence, developing the next generation of healthcare professionals, and changing the natural history of chronic diseases through research. At NUHS, we leverage our unique position as an academic health system to tap on the wealth of resources residing within the whole of the National University of Singapore (NUS). Through collaborations with NUS faculties, we are able to draw upon their academic, research and creative capabilities to develop solutions for existing and emerging health and healthcare needs of the Singapore population. As part of our regional health system responsibility, we work in close collaboration with community hospitals, general practitioners, family medicine clinics, nursing homes and other community and social partners to provide integrated care to the community. Institutions in the NUHS group include four tertiary, acute and community hospitals :

🫀𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭?

After her heart attack in 2018, Ms Theresa Yeoh spent years travelling to NUHCS for routine follow-ups. Today, through the Shared Care Programme, she sees her care team at a nearby polyclinic, while staying connected to her specialist.

Since 2024, more than 380 stable heart patients have joined the programme, with cardiovascular risk factors remaining stable or improving.

Diagnosed with Stage 3 cervical cancer in 2019, Mdm Wong underwent a course of treatment, including chemotherapy. However, during a recent routine scan, she discovered that the cancer had returned and spread to her lymph nodes.

While Mdm Wong was previously able to support herself through her work as a factory operator, she eventually had to resign due to her worsening health. With only modest savings, she found it difficult to cope with both her daily expenses and hefty medical bills.

For families living with a rare disease, the right diagnosis can change the course of care.

When three-year-old Oliver Soh began experiencing seizures and developmental delays as an infant, his family faced a long and uncertain search for answers.

Through advanced genomic testing at National University Hospital - NUH, doctors identified the cause: primary coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) deficiency, an extremely rare inherited disorder that affects how the body produces energy at the cellular level.

With a diagnosis, Oliver’s care team could provide more targeted treatment and personalised care. Today, supported by a multidisciplinary team at NUH, his seizures are better controlled and he continues to make developmental progress.
