🍼 WHY DON’T MY BREASTS FEEL COMPLETELY SOFT AFTER PUMPING?
Especially during the first 1–2 weeks postpartum, this can be completely normal. ❤️
🌸 WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?
🍼 Milk supply is still increasing
Your body is still establishing your milk supply, so your breasts may fill up again soon after pumping.
💧 It’s not just milk
During physiological engorgement, blood flow, tissue fluid and lymphatic fluid also increase, making the breasts feel swollen or firm.
🤱 Breasts can never be completely “empty”
Milk continues to be produced even while you pump. The goal is not to make the breasts completely empty.
🌸 Postpartum swelling
Breast tissue can remain swollen and tight, even after milk has been removed.
🔄 Your supply is still adjusting
Over the first few weeks, your body gradually learns how much milk your baby needs. Breasts may become softer as supply regulates.
❤️ REMEMBER
Still feeling a little firm after pumping does NOT necessarily mean:
❌ Your milk wasn’t removed
❌ You have low milk supply
❌ You need to keep pumping until your breasts are completely soft
Focus on effective milk removal, your baby’s feeding, wet diapers and weight gain.
⚠️ Seek medical advice if you have a persistent hard lump that becomes increasingly painful, red or hot, especially with fever or feeling unwell.
