First up, meet 𝗚𝗮𝘀̌𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗰, founder and director of EVG. 👨‍💼

Gašper has been part of the team from day one, since 2010, when EVG began its journey. As a veterinarian, he always wanted to work with animals, although he did not initially imagine that this path would lead him into the world of laboratory work and genetic testing.
After completing his PhD in molecular biology, he saw an opportunity to connect veterinary medicine with molecular biology and that connection became the 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗩𝗚. 🙌

What he enjoys most about his work is its 𝗱𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. Every day brings new challenges, questions and opportunities to contribute to animal health through science and diagnostics.

Outside of work, Gašper is a true 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗮𝘀𝘁. He enjoys mountain biking, ski touring, windsurfing, running, trail running and travelling. 🏞️
He does not currently have a pet at home, but he once shared his life with Simba, a Newfoundland. 🐾

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁? After finishing his studies, Gašper spent a year and a half travelling around the world.

Known for their confident character, distinctive beard and independent spirit, Scotties are 𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲. They may look serious, but behind that iconic expression is a brave, affectionate and curious dog who loves being close to their favourite humans. 🫂

Originally bred in Scotland, this little terrier has a 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽 𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴. Whether investigating every interesting smell, enjoying a walk or simply relaxing at home, the Scottish Terrier always does things with style. 💅

Birgitta Bernhed has been deeply involved in the world of purebred dogs and dog shows for many years. She has served on the Board of the Swedish Kennel Club for the past 12 years, where she has worked actively with the development and promotion of their activities at both national and international levels. She also serves as the Chairman of the Swedish Kennel Club’s Show Committee and she is closely involved in the planning and organisation of the European Dog show and Swedish Winner Show. In addition to her work within the Swedish Kennel Club, she is also the Vice President for FCI Education and PR. Birgitta has been breeding Phalènes for over 30 years, a passion she shares with her daughter. Together they are dedicated to preserving and developing the breed, and her daughter also shows their dogs in the show rings.
Thomas Uneholt has spent most of his life deeply involved in the dog world. For more than 15 years he has served on the Central Board of the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK), working with long term strategy, policy, and international cooperation. For the European Dog Show, Thomas is a part of the team developing the judges’ panel, something he is truly passionate about. He is also engaged in several international roles, including long-standing work within the FCI Scientific Commission and other collaborations focused on canine health and sustainable breeding. For over 30 years, his wife Tina and him have bred Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers — a breed that has shaped their lives, brought them friendships across the world, and taught them the value of dedication and responsibility as breeders.

🫀 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗺𝘆𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 - 𝗛𝗖𝗠 The most common heart disease in cats. It causes the heart muscle to become thicker, which can make it harder for the heart to work properly. Some cats may look completely healthy, even when a genetic risk is present.

🫀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗺𝘆𝗼𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 - 𝗥𝗖𝗠 A condition where the heart becomes less flexible and cannot fill with blood as it should. Its genetic background is less clearly defined than HCM, but it can still be part of inherited or breed-related heart health concerns.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗮𝗱 𝗛𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀 is one of the inherited conditions that can affect the Dogue de Bordeaux. 🐾
It usually appears when puppies are around 4-5 months old. The paw pads become 𝘂𝗻𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸, 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹. Over time, deep cracks can develop, making walking uncomfortable and increasing the risk of infections. This can lead to limping and reduced quality of life. 😔

The condition is 𝗶𝗻𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆, which means a dog can be a healthy carrier without showing any signs.

That is why genetic testing is so valuable. It helps breeders make informed decisions and helps protect future generations of Dogue de Bordeaux.

For cats, a box is more than just cardboard. It is a safe hiding spot, a warm little nest, and the perfect place to observe the world without being fully seen. 👀

Boxes give cats a sense of 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹, especially when the home is busy, noisy, or full of things to investigate.

So when your cat chooses the box over the expensive cat bed, don’t take it personally.
To them, that box is basically a private comfort zone with excellent surveillance options. 🐈
