Polycystic O***y Syndrome, known for decades as PCOS, has officially been renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome — PMOS. 🙌🏻

The previous name often made the condition sound as if it were mainly about ovarian “cysts”. In reality, PCOS/PMOS is a complex condition that can involve hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, irregular ovulation, metabolic health, skin symptoms, fertility challenges, and long-term health risks.

The new name was introduced through a global consensus process published in The Lancet in May 2026. What changes today is how we talk about it — with a clearer understanding that PMOS is not only an ovarian condition, but a broader endocrine and metabolic disorder.
