Barbing salons can become a source of infection if tools like clippers, blades, scissors, and combs are not properly sterilized. During shaving or hair cutting, small cuts or scratches on the skin allow blood-to-blood contact. If the tools were previously used on someone with HIV or hepatitis B/C, the viruses can remain on the equipment. For example, HIV can survive for a few hours in dried blood, while hepatitis B and C are even stronger and can live for several days on contaminated instruments. When these tools are reused without cleaning, the viruses can easily pass to the next person.
βοΈ Barbing Machines & Infections β What You Need to Know π¦
Barbing tools like clippers, blades, scissors, and combs can spread dangerous infections if not sterilized.
β HIV β survives only a few minutes to a few hours outside the body (in blood on instruments).
β Hepatitis B β much stronger, can survive up to 7 days on contaminated tools.
β Hepatitis C β can live for 3β4 days on dry surfaces.
β Other infections: Tetanus, fungal infections (ringworm), staphylococcus, and skin infections can also spread.
β οΈ Just one tiny cut during shaving or hair cutting is enough for these infections to enter your body.
β
Prevention & Safety:
β’ Always demand a new disposable blade.
β’ Ensure clippers, scissors, and combs are sterilized with 70% alcohol, bleach, UV sterilizer, or autoclave.
β’ Wash hands, use gloves when needed, and keep the salon environment clean.
