Date: 22 July 2026
Today, 22 July 2026, the County Health Director (CHD) of Pochalla, Mr. Abass Othow, together with the CHD supervisory team, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Pochalla South County, Mr. Owitti Olung, to discuss key issues affecting Pochalla Hospital and other health facilities across the county.
The meeting focused on several important agenda items, including the prolonged non-payment of government salaries for health workers serving the two Pochalla counties since 2024. The CHD highlighted the negative impact this situation has had on staff motivation, retention, and the quality of health service delivery.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of community ownership and participation in maintaining health facilities. As development partners continue to reduce their operational support and funding packages, both the County Health Department and the County Administration agreed that local communities must take greater responsibility for protecting, maintaining, and supporting their health facilities to ensure the continuity of essential health services.
The Commissioner appreciated the visit and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the County Health Department and all stakeholders to advocate for the welfare of health workers and strengthen the health system across Pochalla South County.
