The session focused on the crucial role of physiotherapy in supporting patients through every stage of kidney care, from dialysis to post-transplant rehabilitation. It offered a comprehensive review of dialysis modalities, potential complications, and structured rehabilitation strategies designed to enhance patient outcomes.

The discussion underscored how targeted physiotherapy interventions, including breathing exercises, strengthening programmes, endurance training, balance retraining, and early mobilisation, can help reduce fatigue, muscle weakness, breathlessness, fall risk, and circulatory complications. Special emphasis was placed on pre-operative and post-operative rehabilitation for renal transplant patients to support better respiratory health, faster physical recovery, improved cardiovascular function, and long-term independence in daily activities.

This academic session served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and clinical upskilling among healthcare professionals. Dr Srinivasan, who has been serving as the Secretary General of AROI since 2022, is now bestowed with the role of International Ambassador of ASTRO (American Society for Radiation Oncology) from 2025. This further strengthens India’s presence in international radiation oncology leadership.
