Viral Wart on the Eye
Have you noticed a rough bump on your eyelid or the corner of your eye?
It might be a viral wart caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV).
⚠️ Harmful but not dangerous... yet annoying:
· Causes itching and redness
· Spreads by touch
· May grow larger and affect your comfort
⚠️ How to recognize it:
· ✅ Small bump, pink, brown, or skin-colored
· ✅ Rough surface sometimes, may look like a small "cauliflower"
· ✅ Can be single or multiple
· ✅ Usually not painful, but may cause:
· Mild itching
· A foreign body sensation if it grows large
· Redness or irritation of the eyelid
🚫 Is it dangerous?
It is generally benign and does not turn into cancer. However, it is contagious and may grow or spread to other areas of the face or eye if not treated.
🩺 How is it treated?
🚫 Never try to treat it yourself (do not cut it, burn it, or apply ice or vinegar).
Treatment must be under medical supervision and includes:
1. Simple surgical excision (most common and safest)
2. Cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen
3. Laser (for stubborn cases)
4. Prescription creams
🧼 Prevention:
· Do not touch your eye with unwashed hands
· Do not share face towels or makeup products
· Wash your hands after touching any wart on your body
· Never rub your eye if you feel itching (this can spread the virus)
🩺 When to see a doctor:
· If you notice any new bump on the eyelid or around the eye
· If the wart grows larger or starts affecting your vision
· If it becomes painful or starts bleeding
💬
An eyelid wart is not dangerous, but leaving it untreated can lead to annoying complications such as conjunctivitis or chronic dry eye.
