Atha — Now.

The very first Yoga Sūtra begins with this simple word:

Atha yogānuśāsanam
Now, the teaching and practice of yoga begins.

What does “now” mean?

For me, it means here and now.

We don’t practice the body we had yesterday,
nor do we practice for the body we hope to have tomorrow.

We meet ourselves as we are today.

The past can teach us.
The future can give us direction.
But the practice happens only in this moment.

One breath.
One observation.
One practice at a time.

Are you here?

Perhaps this is where yoga begins.

Why Alignment Matters

WHY ALIGNMENT?
Because foundation comes before acceleration.

Before we ask the body to move deeper, move faster, or repeat a sequence, we need to understand how the body is organized.

Alignment is not about making a posture look correct.

It is about putting things in order —
so the joints can find a better position,
the muscles can function in the direction they are designed to work,
the breath can move more freely,
and the practitioner can develop awareness of what is actually happening inside the body.

When we understand this foundation, practice becomes more than repeating shapes.

We begin to understand:

How do I stand?
How do I move?
How do I practice?

ASHTANGA FOUNDATION
Understand your body. Build your practice.

A 3-session foundation program for beginners and practitioners who want a stronger foundation for Ashtanga — combining Iyengar-informed alignment with Ashtanga practice.

Learn how your body stands, moves, and breathes — so your practice becomes sustainable, not just repeatable.

Before asking the body to repeat a sequence, we first learn to understand the body that is practicing. We teach alignment not to make a posture look correct, but so you can understand your own body and sustain the practice for the long term.

SESSION 1 — HOW DO I STAND?
Sat 3 Oct · 11–2 PM
Feet → Legs → Pelvis → Spine
Standing poses become the laboratory.

SESSION 2 — HOW DO I MOVE?
Sun 4 Oct · 11–2 PM
Hips → Pelvis → Spine → Shoulders
Exploring sitting, forward folding, twisting & extensions.

SESSION 3 — HOW DO I PRACTICE?
Sat 10 Oct · 11–2 PM
Breath → Vinyasa → Sequence → Repetition → Self-practice

The foundation doesn’t end with the first two sessions. It becomes the lens through which we learn Ashtanga.

Most people start yoga chasing a shape — the pose they saw, the flexibility they want. But real progress doesn’t come from forcing the body into position. It comes from learning how the body is organized: which parts move, which parts support, and how they work together.

This is what foundation actually means. Not the easiest version of a pose, but the version that teaches your nervous system and joints the intelligent pathways they’ll use for years. Skip this stage, and you build strength on top of compensation — patterns that eventually show up as strain, plateau, or injury. Build it properly, and every pose that follows becomes more efficient, more sensitive, and easier to sustain.

In this program, you’ll learn to:

• Sense your structure from the inside, not just copy a shape from outside
• Move with appropriate effort — enough to organize the body, not so much that you force it
• Build a body that understands why it moves the way it does, not one that just follows instructions
• Practice in a way that gets more sustainable over time, not less

This is for beginners who want to start right, and for practitioners who’ve been practicing a while but suspect their foundation was never quite built.

📌 Sign up before 20 September to reserve your place.

but how to understand your body within it.

STOP TRYING HARDER.
START UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY.

One of the biggest shifts in my practice has come from learning to look beyond the shape of a pose.

Through my ongoing Iyengar mentorship with Teacher Les Smith, I’ve learned to ask different questions:

Where should the action begin?
Which muscles need to wake up?
Where am I compensating?
How can I organize the structure with more sensitivity and less force?

It has changed the way I practice — and the way I teach.

Because yoga is not simply about making the body do more.

It is about learning to place things in the right relationship, so that the body can move with greater clarity, intelligence and intention.

This understanding is at the heart of Samasthiti Foundation — a 3-session foundation workshop designed to help you develop a deeper relationship with your body, alignment and practice.

For Dear,

I like to talk about what people truly need from their practice.

From her first day until now, Dear has gone through so much transformation. And I’ve come to see that finding comfort in practice does not mean avoiding discomfort. It means การเผชิญหน้า — learning to face what arises.

To have enough space between yourself and an unpleasant feeling, so that you can observe it, stay with it, and find the right way to communicate with it.

Balance is never fixed. It keeps moving.

Sometimes you allow fear to be part of the journey. Sometimes you choose to rest. Sometimes you step forward, and sometimes you step back. But both are still part of the practice.

With Dear, I have always tried to present her with challenges—not to push her beyond her limits, but to gently move her beyond what has become familiar.

Because somewhere deep inside, I know she is ready.

The practice is not about becoming someone who never feels afraid or uncomfortable.
It is about becoming someone who knows how to meet those feelings—and keep going.
