My first Hyrox (Part 1) - Less than 7 weeks of training for Women’s Doubles and ended up doing Mixed doubles.
A friend’s friend needed a Hyrox partner - I was going to do it with her but it didn’t work out.
I kept trying to find another female partner because I really wanted to see what I could do with the weights I'd actually been training for. My husband and I had talked about doing Mixed Doubles as a last resort, but we both knew the men's weights might mean I wouldn't be able to do much.
We bought the tickets 2 days before the race 😅.
My husband hadn't trained for HYROX either, but his starting point is VERY different from mine. His normal training is CrossFit and running, he's an ultra trail runner, & runs 20km 2x a week. He did 2 HYROX races back in March but didn’t want to do it again. I basically made him. And he had a 55km trail race 3 days after.
In doubles, both partners have to run all 8km, but you can divide the work at the stations however you want.
The weights for the mixed doubles uses the men's and women's pro weights which is a lot more than the women's double which I trained for.
🏃 1km run × 8
🎿 Ski — 1,000m
🛷 Sled push — 50m @ 152kg
🛷 Sled pull — 50m @ 103kg
🐸 Burpee broad jumps — 80m
🚣 Row — 1,000m
🏋️ Farmer's carry — 200m @ 2×24kg
🦵 Sandbag lunges — 100m @ 20kg
🏀 Wall balls — 100 @ 6kg
What I actually did:
🎿 Ski — 2 × 250m
🚣 Row — 500m
🛷 Sled pull — 6m @ 100kg
🛷 Sled push — 2m @ 150kg
🐸 Burpee broad jumps — 20m
🏋️ Farmer's carry — 50m @ 2×24kg
🦵 Lunges — 0m 😂
🏀 Wall balls — 2 × 5 @ 6kg
I was disappointed in myself for not being able to do the lunges.
The week before, when I realised Mixed Doubles might happen, I tested the 20kg sandbag lunges. I managed 90m. So I thought I could at least do lunges and farmer carries.
Lunges are station 7. By then we'd already done 7 runs and six stations. I tried twice, and couldn't even get down far enough to touch my knee to the floor for ONE rep.
Being able to do an exercise and being able to do it under fatigue is Def not the same thing.
I am proud of my running though - I really thought I would walk but didn’t walk at all!
