STEVE’S STORY: THE WHITE QUARTZ VISION
For 13 years, I attended AA meetings regularly. Largely due to the things I had learned in this 12 step recovery program, I was able to enjoy material and professional success, becoming partners in a thriving business. However, 10-12 hours a day at work and being newly married left me little time for meetings, and with no program to support me, I b
ecame increasingly irritable and resentful. On Jom Tien Beach, Thailand, my wife and I became friends with a couple who ran a bar, and although, thank God, I didn’t drink, I more than once found myself reaching for my bottle of water, and finding my hands around my friends beer bottle instead. I am certain that I was very close to drinking. One day while walking along the beach, I received an amulet of a Buddha from a Thai man all dressed in white. Shortly afterward, I had the realization that I needed; I was a dry drunk, I needed to go to meetings, get a sponsor, reconnect with AA and the program. I made some of the best friends I still have in my life today. I had a new spiritual awakening. In March 2011, I travelled to Mae Sot for the Monks blessing of our new house. While I was there I hiked up the hill behind until I found a high point with a 360 degree view of the mountains. As I approached the spot, an eagle flew overhead. Everywhere I looked on the ground, there were white rocks that later confirmed were quartz. I felt a peace and serenity in this place unlike anything I had ever experienced. I knew in that moment that this area was a place of healing for damaged souls. I found out later that it is believed that white quartz is a purifier, and amplifies all healing. I had a vision to bring suffering people to these mountains to recover from addiction in a beautiful, quiet and secluded environment.
