Waking up with numb hands can sometimes be related to sleeping posture, especially when the arm is under the head or held overhead for a long time. Long flights and prolonged sitting may also increase tension around the neck and shoulders.
A simple change in position may help, but symptoms that happen frequently, continue during the day, travel from the neck into the arm, or are accompanied by weakness should be assessed.
The aim is to understand whether the irritation is coming from local pressure, the neck, the shoulder area, or another source. The same symptom can have different causes, so the right assessment matters.
