"While smoking is a major risk factor in the development of COPD, it is not the only one."
One of the most common misconceptions is that COPD affects only those who smoke.
In reality, although smoking is a significant risk factor, it is not the sole cause.
Indoor smoke from stoves or barbecues, heating with wood or coal, passive smoking, long-term exposure to dust or chemicals in the workplace, and air pollution are also serious contributors to the development of COPD.
COPD is a progressive lung disease characterized by shortness of breath, chronic cough, phlegm production, and difficulty with physical activity. These symptoms are often mistaken for signs of aging and ignored.
Even if you don’t smoke, if you’re experiencing these symptoms, get a respiratory function test done.
Remember:
🌬️ Your breath is your life.
🫁 COPD is not just a “smoker’s disease.”
🎗️ Be aware today. Early diagnosis saves lives.
