How do we plan a hair transplant in advanced Norwood 6–7 hair loss?

In this video, we evaluate our patient 10–11 months after his hair transplant journey.

Before the operation, he had a very wide area of hair loss. The thinning was not only in the front and crown area, but also extended toward the temporal regions, which made the case closer to an advanced Norwood 6–7 pattern.

In cases like this, donor planning becomes the most critical part of the process.

His donor area was limited, especially in the upper temporal and nape regions. The hair quality was mostly fine to medium, and many grafts contained single or double hairs. This means that the number of grafts alone would not be enough to create coverage. The quality, thickness, and distribution of those grafts had to be calculated carefully.

For this reason, we planned the extraction strategically and collected around 5,500–6,000 grafts by using the donor area as efficiently as possible. Because in large bald areas, if you use a low number of grafts or grafts with low coverage capacity, the result may still look sparse.

In this case, with correct planning, careful donor management, and regular follow-up after the procedure, we can see that the transplanted grafts have developed very well.

Advanced hair loss does not mean impossible.

But it does require realistic expectations, precise calculation, and a strategy that protects both the donor area and the final result. ✨

Would every patient be a good candidate for a hair transplant?

Sometimes the best decision is to wait, treat the underlying problem first, control a medical condition, or explain why hair transplantation may not be the right option for that patient.
