What is abortion?
The termination of a pregnancy has become a nightmare among women throughout the years.
Abortion is the removal of tissue from the womb. The word abortion is used to describe biopsies or treatments targeting the uterus. Medical terminology defines this as D&C (dilatation and abortion)In colloquial language, abortion is synonymous to ending a pregnancy, baby removal or termination of pregnancy. However, in the field of gynecology abortion is used for many different procedures.
A woman visiting the gynecologist for an abortion should have the date of her last period, her blood type, her medical history, the reason why she does not want to have the pregnancy, and what she will do from now on to prevent unwanted pregnancy at hand. The candidate for the abortion should receive pre and post medical counseling.
After the initial consultation, the patient should get a full gynecologic check-up and transvaginal ultrasound. Following these steps, the last period of the patient, the pregnancy and its current state should be documented. In the case of a suspicion, a picture of the ultrasound should be added to the patient's file.
Before the treatment, the patient should be examined against ge***al pass infections. If this cannot be done, an antibiotics treatment should be given to the patient after the operation against chlamydia infections. All high-risk groups should get a Hepatitis and AIDS test prior to the procedure.
Vaginal SMEAR test should be done on all patients.
Possible anesthesia methods during the procedure:
General anesthesia:
General anesthesia should only be performed in hospitals. In clinics and doctor's offices where an operation room is not present it is not advisable to perform general anesthesia.
Sedo Anesthesia
This is the anesthesia to minimize the pain and anxiety of the patient. Sedation is the best method if the patient has low tolerance to pain and is afraid of the operation. Sedatives and pain killers can be given through a vascular access that puts the patient into a light sleep and thereafter the operation can easily be performed.
Local Anesthesia
The anesthesia in this procedure is only performed to the sides of the uterus.
