82 YEAR OLD IRAQI PATIENT FOUND HEALING IN TURKEY ...
An 82-year-old Iraqi patient, who came to Istanbul with the diagnosis of lung cancer,
82 years old Iraqi patient Bthha Fahad Jaber Aljaber, applied to the hospital in January with complaints of high fever and severe cough. As a result of the examinations made by Iraqi doctors, the old woman was diagnosed with lung cancer. The surgery would be a high-risk in Iraq so Aljaber upon specifying redirected to Turkey. The patient and her family who had surgery in Istanbul thanked Turkish doctors.
Thoracic Surgery Specialist Assoc. Dr. Özkan Demirhan evaluated the operation process and the patient's condition. Demirhan said, "The patient, who had a mass in the right lower lobe, was biopsied in Iraq and diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We found that there was a lung cancer and the tumor was minimally invasive, that is, it was suitable for surgery with a small incision. This was an extra advantage for the patient because minimally invasive (Videothoracoscopic (VATS)) surgery in elderly patients accelerates the patient's recovery and returns to normal. Although our patient was an elderly patient, her cardiac and lung performance was quite good. We performed our videothoracoscopic right lung lower lobectomy without any problem. As a result of the pathology, no additional oncological treatment was required and full recovery, which we call curative, was achieved. After completing the follow-up process outside the hospital, we sent patient to her country without any problems. "
As seen in this patient, early stage lung cancer surgeries are generally performed with minimally invasive techniques and patients recovery and return to normal life is shortened. This is even more important in elderly (over 80 years old) patients, as there is a high risk of systemic diseases it gives them an extra advantage.”
