Stew chicken lovers, this one's for you πŸ˜‹πŸ—

Today I've paired stewed chicken with sweet potato & fresh vegetables to create a balanced meal that provides:

🍠 Complex carbohydrates to support energy, fiber intake & blood sugar management

πŸ— Protein to support fullness, muscle health & satisfaction after meals

πŸ₯¬ Vegetables for nutrients, fiber & volume on the plate

Healthy eating isn't about finding the "perfect" food & it's definitely not about foreign foods only

It's about learning to build nourishing & familiar meals that support your health goals

I've created & taught The Cultural Plate program for years for this exact reason

Because sustainable wellness shouldn't require giving up your culture πŸ’›

Ready to stop feeling confused about what to eat & learn how to pair Caribbean foods to support your health?

Our Caribbean greens have been nourishing generations LONG before kale became trendy

πŸ’°Plus, they're easier on the pocket & make healthy eating on a budget more attainable

No judgement if you enjoy kale (I have it occasionally) -- but let's give bhagi, callaloo & other local greens the spotlight they deserve

So no, you don't NEED kale if you have bhagi

πŸ’š Tell me, which Caribbean green is your favourite?

Where are my provisions & saltfish lovers? πŸ˜ƒπŸ–πŸΎ

Whoever said healthy eating meant avoiding cultural foods clearly hasn't come across my page yetβ€”share this with them πŸ˜‰πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

Today I've paired ground provisions with double-boiled & washed saltfish (to help reduce the sodium content) & fresh veggies like lettuce & sweet peppers to create a meal that provides:

🍠 Complex carbohydrates to support energy

🎣 Protein from saltfish to support fullness & muscle health

πŸ₯¬ Vegetables for fibre, nutrients, & volume on the plate

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that people think they need to give up traditional foods to improve their health

That's simply not true.

In reality, learning how to build a balanced plate is often far more effectiveβ€”and sustainableβ€”than eliminating the foods you love πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

Healthy eating shouldn't feel like a battle between your culture & your health goals πŸ’›

That's why I created The Cultural Plate Method & have taught it for years, helping clients enjoy the foods they grew up with while working toward their health goals.

If you're ready to learn how to enjoy Caribbean foods while supporting your weight, blood sugar, blood pressure, or overall health, our next 6-week group coaching program starts July 1st.

Comment "PLATE" below and I'll make sure you're among the first to hear the details. πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

Them: plantains aren't healthy
Me: enjoying them at breakfast, lunch & dinner πŸ˜„

Let this serve as your reminder that high-carb cultural foods like plantains aren't inherently unhealthy

Yes, even if you're trying to lose weight, lower blood sugar or support gut health

For each of these goals, your portion size matters much more than removing a food packed with nutrition just because it has CARBS

Not to mention, it's quite filling 🀌🏾

Share this information with someone who you know needs it ❀️

& let me know - what's your favorite way to enjoy plantains? I'm simple - boiled plantain is my go-to

Let's talk about blood sugar management WITH Caribbean foods πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

Too often, I hear people say:

"I can't eat _____ because of my blood sugar."

Maybe it's:
πŸ”Έ Ground provisions
πŸ”Έ Peas and beans
πŸ”Έ Corn
πŸ”Έ Fruit
πŸ”Έ Or even vegetables like carrots & pumpkin

Many people have been taught to fear cultural foods that can actually support their health

It's time to challenge the belief that Caribbean foods cause more harm than good

Yes, you can improve your chronic health while enjoying the foods you know and love πŸ’›

Caribbean foods provide:

πŸ”Έ Dietary fiber that helps you feel satisfied, supports digestion & promotes healthier blood sugar & cholesterol levels.

πŸ”Έ Vitamins, minerals & plant compounds that support metabolism, reduce inflammation & contribute to overall wellness.

πŸ”Έ Culture, heritage & connectionβ€”because healthy eating shouldn't require abandoning your roots.

The key isn't eliminating these foods. It's understanding how to build balanced meals that work for your body's needs.

πŸ‘‡πŸΎ Let's talk about it in the comments:

What's one Caribbean food you've been told to avoid because of your blood sugar?

Let's dive into something many of us grew up with - bush medicine 🌿

It's We T'ing Wednesday Cultural Fam' πŸ™ŒπŸΎ

A few years ago I wrote an article for Healthline exploring the traditional practice of bush medicine in the Caribbean

I'm talking about:
🌿 Teas
🌿 Tonics
🌿 Coolings
🌿 And ointments to "sap" for pain

These aren't just remedies - they're part of our cultural identity and something that's very much alive today

But, they do need context, safety & intention

You can read the full article with the link in my bio

πŸ‘‰πŸΎ I'd love to hear from you - what's one bush medicine you grew up with?
