July is Fibroid Awareness Month and, while much of our quiet work continues through our ongoing private support calls, post surgery support + check-ins, responses to information inquires and more, it was our pleasure to do our small part to amplify some awareness today!

This Fibroid Awareness Month, our contact lines remain open as we continue to provide support and information (868-362-1807), but we also look back on our journey of awareness and impact through the years!

In commemoration of International Day of the Girl Child 2019, we began our 2nd annual The Confidence Project School Tour on October 10th, 2019.

The Fibroid Awareness TT Team, in keeping with its mandate to empower and educate girls through awareness, not only on Fibroids, but reproductive and sexual health and other issues of the uterus; visited Signal Hill Secondary School, the first school on our tour

We engaged in an open, interactive and very lively discussion, which included presentations by one of of volunteer physicians, Dr. Marielle Armstrong and our founder Mrs. Korice AQ Nancis. Sincerest thanks to the young ladies for their attention and energy and Principal Mr. Xavier King, Guidance Counsellor, Ms. Melville and the teachers and library staff who welcomed us and made our experience a memorable one.

Our next stop, as we continue to commemorate is Bishop's High School on Monday October 14th, 2019 and then we will continue our school tour across the island in November.

As of May 12 2026, Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is officially being renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) to better reflect the complex hormonal, metabolic, and reproductive nature of the condition, which affects over 170 million women globally.

The name change highlights that the condition is more than just ovarian cysts.

A welcome shift in understanding one of the many issues of the uterus!

A condition that impacts millions of women is getting a new name.

Polycystic o***y syndrome, or PCOS, a reproductive hormone imbalance, will now be known as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, or PMOS for short.

A global consensus calling for the name change was published Tuesday in The Lancet, based on input from more than 50 leading academic, clinical, and patient organizations, along with feedback from more than 14,000 women with the condition.

Experts say the old name was misleading, since it suggests ovarian cysts are the main issue when they are not actually a defining feature.

Sometimes the most powerful gift that can be given to another woman is simply letting her know she is not alone.

Many women living with fibroids suffer in silence, unsure of what they are experiencing or where to turn for support. But when we share our stories, our knowledge, and our encouragement, something powerful happens... awareness grows and more women find the help they need.

This International Women’s Day, let’s continue to give support, share knowledge, and raise our voices so that every woman can gain access to the care and understanding she deserves.

We are feeling hopeful at Fibroid TT following today's announcement of a Women’s Health Fund in the 2026 National Budget Statement.

Period Poverty is multifaceted and affects vulnerable women and girls greatly, policy measures, designed with our girls and women in mind, are therefore welcomed and must be commended. We await further details on accessing the fund.

'Period Poverty continues to undermine the health and educational opportunities of many women and girls in Trinidad and Tobago.
Women and girls impacted by Period Poverty struggle to afford menstrual hygiene products.

✨️ We're still reeling from the incredible success of our first-ever free women's clinic, hosted yesterday on August 3rd, 2025. 🩺

This collage is a snippet of the many beautiful moments. From free ultrasounds, free consultations, fellowship and a safe space, to shared laughter, tears, experiences and heartfelt conversations... there was community! 🫂

Even more, this milestone was the culmination of a series of impactful activities we hosted for Fibroid Awareness Month 2025 and we look forward to continuing on our journey of , and ! ❤️

A very interesting and informative study. 📝

Of course, we immediately think of cases of women with enlarged hearts after prolonged symptomatic anemia as a result of fibroids as well!

🫀 Women with fibroids are more likely to develop atrial fibrillation (AF), a heart rhythm disorder.

In a study of over 2.5 million women, those with fibroids had double the risk of AF, especially if they hadn’t had surgery.

Why the link? Likely because AF and some types of uterine fibroids share deeper drivers like inflammation and metabolic dysfunction. That means addressing those underlying issues could benefit both uterus and heart health. ❤️

💡 This may not apply to all fibroids because there are different types, depending on hormone receptor status and the degree and nature of fibrotic changes.

Today we are THANKFUL that our vision became reality and we were able to host our first ever FREE Women's Clinic. Yesterday was a tremendous success as numerous women of various ages, from across the country, were able to access free ultrasounds, free consultations and a safe space to share + fellowship.
