ANTENATAL ULTRASOUND SCANS 😍😍😍

The most beautiful & amazing sound in the universe 🩷🩵

Hearing your baby’s heartbeat at your anticipated & exciting antenatal visit…. Melts my heart every time… I can see the joy on my patients faces 😍

The heartbeat can be detected from 6 weeks after the last menstrual period… all the organs are fully developed by 6-8 weeks, therefore ensuring you DO NOT use any medications/tablets/skin care products during this time is crucial to prevent any abnormalities.

Some medications like those for diabetes/high blood pressure need to be discontinued before conception: So please use birth control until you plan to get pregnant or attend 3 months prior to conception for your “Trimester 0” or preconception care 🤗

Any pregnancy which requires additional/closer monitoring for you & your baby.

‼️ Diabetes
‼️ Hypertension or Preeclampsia
‼️ Uterine Fibroids
‼️ Bleeding during pregnancy
‼️ Multiple Pregnancy - Twins
‼️ Thyroid Disease
‼️ Anaemia
‼️ Sickle cell disease
‼️ SLE - Lupus
‼️ Previous preterm delivery


‼️ Small for gestation age(SGA) baby or Growth Restricted baby(IUGR)

You can enter a pregnancy being high risk

Or you can be low risk & then become high risk

You need to see an Obstetrician.

You will need additional blood investigations; more frequent antenatal appointments; may require medications- tablets or insulin or blood pressure medications.

Many cases do require earlier delivery or induction of labour or Caesarean section.

Every case is unique; special & require an individualised plan of care…. You many also need multiple specialists involved, or multidisciplinary care - dietitian, endocrinologist, nephrologist, Haematologist depending on the medical scenario.
