✨ Celebrating a pioneer woman: Marilyn Stollmeyer

This World Breastfeeding 2026, we honour a woman whose work helped shape the breastfeeding landscape in Trinidad & Tobago.

Long before Mamatoto opened its doors, Marilyn Stollmeyer was already advocating for mothers and babies. In 1977, she founded the Informative Breastfeeding Service (TIBS), born from a simple but powerful recognition: mothers needed somewhere to turn for breastfeeding support.

What began as a small gathering for support is now the Breastfeeding Association of Trinidad and Tobago. A lasting legacy of education, advocacy and community support.

As a nurse, midwife, lactation consultant and childbirth educator, Marilyn dedicated decades to helping families. She went on to become on of the founders of Mamatoto.

In 2024, that lifetime of dedication and service was formally recognized when Marilyn received the Chaconia Medal Gold for long and meritorious service to Trinidad and Tobago in Health and Education.

Today we recognize and celebrate the pathway Marilyn has paved for many. Thank you for standing with mothers, championing breastfeeding, and educating families.

✨ The ICM 34th Triennial Congress in Lisbon, Portugal was amazing!

Over 3200 Midwives from around the world attended. I met old friends, made new ones, networked, presented on our work in Trinidad & Tobago, refined my suturing skills, and stayed updated on SRMNAH. I also met to discuss a global organization for midwifery-led centers - all powerful opportunities!!
And, of course, I experienced the country 😉. 2029 Abu Dhabi, here we come!
