Your heart has four valves, and when one doesn’t close properly, your heart may have to work harder.

Mitral Valve Regurgitation (MR) occurs when the mitral valve, located between the heart’s left upper and lower chambers, does not close tightly. As a result, some blood leaks backward each time the heart contracts instead of moving efficiently forward through the body.

In mild cases, you may experience few or even no symptoms. However, as the condition progresses, you may notice:

🫁 Shortness of breath, particularly during activity or when lying down
😴 Fatigue or reduced ability to exercise
💓 Heart palpitations or an irregular heartbeat
🦶 Swelling of the feet or ankles
❤️ A heart murmur detected during examination

When significant mitral regurgitation is left untreated, the additional workload placed on the heart can eventually contribute to complications such as heart enlargement, atrial fibrillation, pulmonary hypertension and heart failure.

The good news is that Mitral Valve Regurgitation can be evaluated and managed. Depending on its cause and severity, treatment may range from regular monitoring and medication to advanced procedures to repair or replace the mitral valve.

At Caribbean Heart Care Medcorp Ltd. (CHCm), our cardiovascular team provides comprehensive assessment and treatment options for patients with heart valve disease.

If you have been diagnosed with a heart murmur or valve condition, or you're experiencing unexplained breathlessness, fatigue or palpitations, don't ignore what your heart may be telling you.

Early assessment can help determine the severity of the condition and the most appropriate treatment plan for you.

❤️ Know your heart. Know your valves. Know your options.

Living a heart-healthy life doesn’t mean getting everything right, every single day. It means making intentional choices; one meal, one walk, one good night’s sleep and one check-up at a time.

At Caribbean Heart Care Medcorp Ltd. (CHCm), we encourage our cardiovascular patients to focus on progress, not perfection.

🥗 Eat nourishing foods — Choose more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and heart-friendly options whenever you can.
🏃‍♀️ Stay active — Regular movement can strengthen your heart, improve circulation and support a healthier weight.
💧 Drink enough water — Staying adequately hydrated supports your body's normal functions and overall wellbeing.
🧘‍♀️ Manage stress — Make time to slow down, breathe and protect your peace. Chronic stress can affect more than your mood — it can affect your heart too.
😴 Get good sleep — Your body needs quality rest to recover, regulate and recharge.
💚 Be kind to yourself — A less-than-perfect day does not erase your progress. Reset, refocus and keep going.

And most importantly, know your cardiovascular health. Regular medical check-ups and appropriate heart screenings can help identify risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and other cardiovascular concerns before they become more serious.

You don't have to change everything overnight.
Choose yourself today, one healthy decision at a time.
Because the small choices you make consistently can help create a healthier heart and a better tomorrow. ❤️

😂🧂 WHEN YOUR DOCTOR SAYS “REDUCE YOUR SODIUM”… AND SUDDENLY YOU’RE A NUTRITION LABEL DETECTIVE. 👀🔎

You pick up your favourite snack thinking, “It’s just a lil’ something…” 😌

Then you turn the package around and see the sodium:
👁️👄👁️
Plot twist: Your blood pressure has been reading the label too. 😂❤️

While our bodies need a small amount of sodium, regularly consuming too much can contribute to high blood pressure, which increases the workload on your heart and can raise your risk of cardiovascular disease.

And here's where those sneaky milligrams can hide: packaged snacks, canned foods, processed meats, sauces, seasonings, fast food and even foods that don't necessarily taste very salty.

So next time you're shopping:
🛒 Flip the package over
👀 Check the sodium on the nutrition label
📏 Pay attention to the serving size, because the whole bag may be more than one serving! 😅
🥗 Choose lower-sodium options when possible
🧂 And remember… small amounts really do add up.

You don't have to break up with every snack you love. 💔😂 Just become a little more salt-smart about how often and how much you have.

Because you may be able to fool yourself with “I only had a little…”
…but your blood pressure knows the truth! 😂❤️

❤️ HAVE YOU BEEN TOLD YOU HAVE A HEART MURMUR?

A heart murmur is an unusual sound heard between heartbeats, and while some murmurs are completely harmless, others may be a sign of an underlying heart or valve condition that needs further evaluation.

So, what happens next?

🫀 An Echocardiogram (Echo) can help provide answers.

An Echo is a non-invasive test that uses ultrasound to create images of your heart, allowing your cardiovascular team to assess:

• How well your heart is pumping
• The structure and function of your heart valves
• Whether a valve is narrowed or leaking
• The size and movement of the heart's chambers
• Whether the murmur may require monitoring or treatment

Having a heart murmur doesn't automatically mean something is seriously wrong, but understanding its cause matters.

If you've recently been told you have a murmur, or you've known about one but haven't had it evaluated in some time, speak with the CHCm cardiovascular team about whether an Echocardiogram is appropriate for you.

❤️ Don't just know you have a murmur. Know what may be causing it.

❤️ HAVE YOU BEEN TOLD YOU HAVE A HEART MURMUR?

Hearing the words “you have a heart murmur” can sound worrying, but a heart murmur is not a disease itself. It is an extra or unusual sound heard during your heartbeat, often described as a “whooshing” or “swishing” sound.

Some heart murmurs are innocent and harmless, while others may be a sign of an underlying heart condition, including a problem with one of your heart valves.
That’s why the important question isn’t simply “Do I have a murmur?”....it’s “What is causing it?”

Your doctor may recommend further evaluation, such as an Echocardiogram (Echo), to assess the structure and function of your heart and determine whether treatment or ongoing monitoring is necessary.

🫀 Don’t panic, but don’t ignore it either.

At Caribbean Heart Care Medcorp Ltd. (CHCm), our cardiovascular team can help you understand what your heart murmur means and determine the appropriate next steps for your heart health.

Would You Know the Difference?

Chest pain. A racing heart. Shortness of breath. Sweating. Dizziness. A sudden feeling that something is terribly wrong.
These symptoms can occur during both a heart attack and an anxiety or panic attack, and that overlap can make it difficult to know what your body is telling you.

The most important message? Never assume chest pain is “just anxiety.”

🫀 A HEART ATTACK may include:
• Pressure, squeezing, heaviness, fullness or pain in the chest
• Pain or discomfort spreading to the arm(s), shoulder, back, neck or jaw
• Shortness of breath
• Cold sweats
• Nausea or vomiting
• Light-headedness, dizziness or unusual weakness

🧠 ANXIETY OR A PANIC ATTACK may include:
• Rapid heartbeat or palpitations
• Chest tightness or discomfort
• Rapid breathing or feeling unable to get enough air
• Trembling or sweating
• Tingling or numbness
• Dizziness
• An intense feeling of fear, panic or impending doom

⚠️ But symptoms alone cannot always reliably distinguish between the two.
A heart attack can sometimes feel like anxiety, and the frightening symptoms of a heart attack can themselves cause anxiety. Symptoms can also vary significantly between patients.

That is why new, severe, persistent or unexplained chest discomfort should never be self-diagnosed.

If you think you may be experiencing a heart attack, treat it as a medical emergency and seek immediate medical attention. Minutes matter when heart muscle is being deprived of blood and oxygen.

☕📈 Three coffees. One argument. Zero confidence in that blood pressure reading. 😂

We've all had those days...
☕ Coffee #1: "Let's be productive."
☕ Coffee #2: "I can handle this."
☕ Coffee #3: "Nobody talk to me."
😤 One unexpected argument later... and suddenly the pharmacy blood pressure machine is giving you the side-eye. 👀

While a stressful moment or a few cups of coffee can cause a temporary rise in blood pressure, consistently high readings shouldn't be ignored. High blood pressure is often called the "silent killer" because it usually has no warning signs, but it can quietly increase your risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and other serious health problems.

❤️ Here's your friendly reminder:
✔️ Rest for 5 minutes before checking your blood pressure.
✔️ Avoid caffeine, smoking, and exercise for at least 30 minutes beforehand.
✔️ If your readings stay high, don't panic, get them checked by a healthcare professional.

Because the goal isn't to beat the machine... it's to keep your heart healthy for years to come. 😉

📍 If it's been a while since your last heart check-up, the team at Caribbean Heart Care Medcorp (CHCm) is here to help.

Your heart works for you every second of every day. The choices you make today can help protect it for years to come.

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of illness worldwide, but many cardiovascular conditions are preventable through healthy lifestyle choices and regular heart check-ups.

It doesn't take a complete lifestyle overhaul to make a difference. Small, consistent habits can have a powerful impact on your heart health.

Start with these simple steps:

❤️ Eat well – Choose more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and heart-healthy fats while limiting excess salt, sugar, and processed foods.

❤️ Move more – Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week. Every walk, swim, bike ride, or workout strengthens your heart.

❤️ Stress less – Chronic stress can affect your heart health. Prioritize quality sleep, relaxation, mindfulness, and spending time with those you love.

❤️ Know your numbers – Regularly check your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and weight to stay ahead of potential problems.

❤️ Don't skip your heart check-up – Prevention and early detection are among the most effective ways to reduce your risk of heart disease.

At Caribbean Heart Care Medcorp (CHCm), we're committed to helping you achieve lifelong cardiovascular wellness through expert consultations, advanced diagnostic services, and personalized care.

Your heart has been taking care of you. It's time to return the favour.

Is Your Heart Trying to Tell You Something?

Have you ever felt your heart fluttering, racing, pounding, or skipping a beat? These sensations, known as heart palpitations, are common and are often harmless, but sometimes they can be a sign of an underlying heart condition that requires medical attention.

Heart palpitations may be triggered by:
❤️ Stress or anxiety
❤️ Caffeine, ni****ne, or alcohol
❤️ Certain medications or supplements
❤️ Lack of sleep or dehydration
❤️ Hormonal changes
❤️ Heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) or other cardiovascular conditions

While occasional palpitations may not be cause for concern, you should never ignore them if they are:

⚠️ Frequent or persistent
⚠️ Accompanied by chest pain or discomfort
⚠️ Associated with shortness of breath
⚠️ Causing dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
⚠️ Occurring during exercise or physical activity

At Caribbean Heart Care Medcorp (CHCm), our cardiovascular specialists use advanced diagnostic tools, including Electrocardiograms (ECG), Holter monitoring, event monitors, echocardiography, and other cardiac evaluations, to identify the cause of your symptoms and recommend the most appropriate treatment.

The earlier an abnormal heart rhythm is diagnosed, the sooner it can be managed, helping to reduce the risk of complications such as stroke, heart failure, or sudden cardiac events.

Don't ignore what your heart may be trying to tell you. Early evaluation brings peace of mind, and could save your life.
