Ever wondered what your doctor actually needs to perform a Pap smear? 👀

In this video, I’m showing you some of the essential items I use to perform a Pap smear safely, comfortably, and accurately.

While the equipment is important, the test itself is only part of cervical cancer prevention.

✨ A Pap smear looks for abnormal cells on the cervix.
✨ An HPV test looks for the high-risk types of HPV that can cause cervical cancer—often before abnormal cells develop.

When used together, Pap smear and HPV testing provide the most comprehensive cervical cancer screening available for many women.

So before your appointment:
✔️ Avoid s*x for 24 hours.
✔️ Avoid vaginal creams 24–48 hours.
✔️ Try not to book while on your period.
✔️ Bring any previous Pap smear or HPV results if you have them.

The best screening test for you depends on your age, medical history, and previous results, so let’s discuss your options during your visit.

💗 Early detection saves lives. Don’t wait until you have symptoms—cervical cancer is often preventable with the right screening.

It’s July🥳🥳🥳 💖

I had the opportunity to chair a women’s health booth at the TRHA Nurses Health Fair at the Canaan/Bon Accord health Centre.

It was an opportunity to interact and educate both staff and participating villagers on women’s health issues:

✔️Available types of contraceptives
✔️Types of papsmears
✔️Benefits of the Hpv vaccine
✔️Definition of menopause
✔️PCOS changes and symptoms
✔️The fact that our body has the ability to clear hpv virus but it is those that it’s persistent in, it would go on to form abnormal cells at the cervix
✔️Importance of annual wellness checks

An England study found that cervical cancer deaths fell to zero among young women vaccinated against HPV.
This is a powerful reminder that prevention works.
Here in Tobago, HPV vaccination and regular cervical screening can save lives and protect future generations of women.
Cervical cancer is preventable—let’s use the tools we have. 🩵
