Priya Gomes Mora of PreHab Services and Jeanne Sabga of Aidaneed Foundation provided a wheelchair assessment for a client a few months ago. A toileting/hygiene chair was also recommended. These pieces of equipment were ordered and through AA Laquis Home Healthcare Stores and their partnership with Loh Medical. They are customized to the specific needs of the client.
These 2 pieces of equipment will hopefully allow the client to be positioned better for functional activities including eating, bathing, toileting, watching TV and social interaction etc.
While customized equipment can be quite expensive, the benefits of proper positioning, functional use and interaction far outweigh the costs of numerous ill fitting wheelchairs and repairs over years, doctors visits for skin breakdown and injuries and decreased participation in functional day to day activities.
They were able to raise the funds needed for the equipment through donations from our Holy Name Convent POS alumni, friends, family and other organizations. This could not have been made possible without these generous donations.
They worked with some amazing Biomedical technicians from AA Laquis, Mark Manmohan and Aquila Job and got assistance from USC OT student Tanika Thomas and OT Shasta Green.
If we all help each other, we can accomplish so much more together!
