Before these products reach the shelf, their ingredients may have passed through multiple countries, suppliers, and processing steps. For food testing labs, verifying what is actually in the final product can be a complex task.

How to Choose Magnetic Beads for Affinity Capture ❓

For affinity-based applications, choosing the right magnetic bead starts with the target, capture strategy, and binding mechanism.

🧲There are three common options:

■ Streptavidin Magnetic Beads
Capture biotinylated biomolecules through the strong streptavidin–biotin interaction. They are commonly used for pull-down assays, nucleic acid applications, affinity capture, and biomolecule immobilization.

■ Protein A Magnetic Beads
Bind primarily to the Fc region of IgG antibodies and are widely used for antibody purification and immunoprecipitation. Binding affinity varies depending on the antibody species and subclass.

■ Protein G Magnetic Beads
Also bind primarily to the Fc region of IgG antibodies, but have a different species and subclass binding profile from Protein A. They are commonly used for antibody purification and immunoprecipitation across a broad range of IgG antibodies.

■ Why FFPE?
Formalin-Fixed, Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) tissues are widely used in pathology and clinical research to preserve tissue structure and store samples long term. Beyond H&E, IHC, and IF staining, FFPE samples can also provide DNA and RNA for biomarker studies, cancer gene analysis, and molecular profiling.

■ The challenge
Formalin fixation can cause nucleic acid crosslinking, fragmentation, and chemical modifications, making DNA and RNA harder to recover for downstream molecular analysis.

■ DNA and RNA extraction
