Laser therapy achieves its effects by directly or indirectly damaging the target and inducing an inflammatory response in the skin.

Simply put:
Skin injury ➡️Inflammation ➡️Tissue repair and regeneration ➡️Desired clinical effect. Any type of laser light causes some degree of damage to the skin!

In response to damage, the skin has a defense mechanism in place, deploying its own skin defenses (melanocytes are one of them). Melanocytes become activated and secrete melanin, which is clinically seen as "melanin deposition." This is the "darkness" that so many people shudder at! 😫

Therefore, darkening after any skin treatment is a normal physiological phenomenon! Most darkening will fade over time. Don't be overly alarmed by it! 😊
