For International Physicians: New real-world evidence on : Coronary sinus reducer implantation for refractory angina: a national audit of UK practice
A major UK national audit just published in Heart Journal reinforces the value of implantation in patients with refractory angina despite optimised medical therapy.
Across 19 centres, results confirm that is being implemented in line with guideline recommendations in real-world clinical practice, translating into meaningful clinical outcomes for patients. As shown in the figure, there is a clear shift in the distribution of CCS class from baseline to 6 months, with more patients moving to lower angina severity classes, reflecting an overall improvement in symptoms:
🔶 75% improved ≥1 CCS class
🔶 36% improved ≥2 CCS classes
These findings highlight the ability of Shockwave coronary sinus reducer to significantly improve angina symptoms and quality of life in a highly symptomatic population with limited treatment options.
Congratulations to all authors, Cheng, K., Witherow, F., Byrne, J., Lindsay, S., Patterson, T., de Silva, K. ,R., de Silva and collaborating centres for this important contribution to real-world evidence and the continued advancement of care in refractory angina.
