[Mackay Memorial Hospital Holds Memorial Service for Dr. George Leslie Mackay and Tamkang High School Campus Tour]
To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the death of Dr. George Leslie Mackay (June 2, 1901), Mackay Memorial Hospital held the “Dr. Mackay Memorial Service and Tamkang High School Campus Tour” on May 30. Through a memorial worship service and a historical campus tour, participants honored Dr. Mackay’s lifelong dedication to medical care, education, and evangelical ministry in Taiwan.
A total of 36 staff members enthusiastically registered for and participated in the event, including Superintendent Dr. Wen-Han Chang, Director Chun-Chi Chen of the Taipei-Tamsui Campus President’s Office, Director Po-Hsun Lee, Chief Chaplain Rev. Ya-Li Wu, and colleagues from various professional departments. Together, they traveled to the Mackay Cemetery in Tamsui to attend the memorial service.
During the service, Rev. Hsuan-Kai Chang from the Department of Chaplaincy delivered a message titled “A Love That Neither Mountains nor Seas Can Separate.” He explained how Dr. Mackay, having received God’s unconditional love, courageously crossed oceans and traversed mountains to come to Taiwan, bringing the Gospel, medical care, and education to this land, thereby exemplifying a life of selfless dedication.
At the conclusion of the service, Superintendent Wen-Han Chang and Chief Chaplain Rev. Ya-Li Wu presented flowers in tribute. All attendees joined together in singing “The Final Home,” and the memorial ceremony concluded with a benediction by Rev. Hsuan-Kai Chang.
Following the service, Rev. Ming-Che Lin, Chaplain of Tamkang High School, guided the Mackay staff on a campus tour. Participants visited historical landmarks including the Octagonal Tower, the Auditorium, the Centennial Christmas Tree, and the Girls’ School (now Chun-Te Kindergarten). Rev. Lin shared the history of Dr. Mackay’s educational endeavors and highlighted how Tamkang High School continues to carry forward his mission through its ongoing commitment to education.
This event was not only a journey through history but also an important experience in the transmission of faith and mission. It enabled participating staff members to once again appreciate Dr. Mackay’s spirit of “Rather burn out than rust out,” making it a deeply meaningful day of gratitude and remembrance.
