Dr Mazhar Amirali - MD, MMED (Internal Medicine), FCP(SA), MPhil (Nephrology), Cert. Nephrology (SA) Phys. - is an Internal Medicine and Kidney Specialist who received his training in South Africa. He recently spent two years as an International Society of Nephrology (ISN) Fellow studying general nephrology and was granted his ISN fellowship in November 2019 after successfully completing his train

Remember!, dialysis is a supportive therapy, not curative. It is used to support your kidneys while recovering from an acute insult or while awaiting a kidney transplant (for those patients with end-stage kidney disease).



The time needed for your depends on:
➡️how well your kidneys work
➡️how much fluid weight you gain between treatments
➡️how much waste you have in your body
➡️how big you are
➡️the type of artificial kidney used
Usually, it lasts about 4 hours and is done 3 times per week.
