Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania at the 13th Tanzania Health Summit.
From 5–7 October, Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania was honoured to participate in the 13th Tanzania Health Summit, officially opened by the Minister of Health, Hon. Omary Mchengerwa.
We showcased our healthcare programme development, partnership initiatives, service enhancements aimed at reversing medical tourism, and commitment to climate action and sustainability, highlighting initiatives that support quality care while promoting environmental responsibility.
During the AKHS Health Forum Mr. Sisawo Konteh, CEO, Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania contributions on the forum discussions strongly commend the vital role of public-private partnerships on exchange progammes, quality, climate change, and capacity building in the evolving healthcare financing landscape, while reinforcing AKHS, T commitment to continuing complementing the Government of Tanzania through the ministry of health by investing in shaping and building sustainable health system while reversing medical tourism.
The Aga Khan Hospital’s forum featured our Medical Director, Prof. Muzdalifat Abeid, who also serves as Co-Chair of the Research Committee at Aga Khan University. She shared an overview of AKHS,T’s services, JCI and SafeCare accreditations, and healthcare capabilities in Tanzania.
Rolla Khadduri from the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) Geneva Office highlighted climate action initiatives across AKDN and in Tanzania, including efforts to reduce environmental impact within healthcare.
Dr. Irfan Rajput, Orthopaedic Surgeon and Sports Medicine Specialist, brought the discussion into focus on sports injuries, advances in sports medicine, and future plans and innovations, including the potential introduction of robotic surgery.
The session concluded with an engaging discussion on balancing quality healthcare with climate action and our journey towards net zero by 2030.
