The first ultrasound scan is one of a variety of special and unforgettable experiences that come with starting the motherhood journey. This experience is full with excitement, expectation, and a little bit of the unknown for first-time mothers.
Little do you realize when you enter the radiologist's office that a full bladder is necessary for the scan. The radiologist encourages you to wait patiently, which can seem like an eternity, and to drink lots of water. While enduring the discomfort of a full bladder and impatiently waiting to see the white and black pictures of what lies underneath the bump, time passes.
It's finally time. The radiologist gently lowers your panty as you lay down on the bed, symbolizing the transformational experience of parenthood when you first undress. As the cold gel is given to your belly, causing a chill to run down your spine, the room is filled with a sensation of expectancy.
Then your full bladder causes you to experience a range of feelings as the transducer is placed against your skin. It's a thin line to walk between needing to hold on to finish the process and the urge to urinate.
